Millie the day she was rescued.

Kellie now Millie came to ARI from a puppy mill where she was used to produce puppies in deplorable conditions. Here's an update from her family today.

Millie today.

"We rescued Kelly on March 16, and we wanted to give you an update. We changed her name to Millie and she is wonderful. We never had to house train her, she went outside from the time she came home with us. She is very happy and we wanted to send some pictures of Millie and her brother Wesley.
She has added so much to our lives and we can't thank you enough for the opportunity to give her a loving home. We consider ourselves very lucky."

Dear Friend,
The month has been hectic here at Animal Rescue, Inc. First, our 30-year-old septic system kicked the bucket, then water pipes burst in our barn! Not to mention many of our buildings are 20 or more years old and well, the materials used to build them are not as durable as materials now.
We're not surprised. ARI has housed tens of thousands of animals throughout the years -- eventually a few repairs will be needed. We just never thought the damage would be done all at once and cost more than $30,000.

Damage to the clinic after the
pipes burst.
|
The ARI barn is a 3-story refurbished structure predating the Civil War. Its walls alone hold an estimated 100 dogs and 250 cats at any given time. When the old pipes burst, we discovered damage on the first floor and more importantly in our clinic where we host our weekly spay/neuter surgeries. This building is critical to our operation.
After repeated troubles with the septic system, we brought in a few experts who agreed the system would have to be dug out and replaced. Ouch.
Many of our buildings haven't stood against the test of time. The structure of The Betty White House, named after Golden Girl and animal activist Betty White, is beginning to crumble. The flooring and

| walls of The Cottage are deteriorating. Cats had to be moved out of The Cabin (the original, modest, one-room home of our director) because insulation no longer protects against the elements. We want to offer our residents the closest thing to a home life they may ever know. To do this, repairs are necessary.
ARI will be holding a raffle to raise funds for these dire repairs. Check your mailbox soon for a chance to win $500, $250 or $100! Not signed up for our mailing list? Send your name and address to us here. Don't want to participate in the raffle but would like to make a contribution? You can make a donation by clicking the PayPal button below.
With your help, ARI has grown to the long-standing, no-kill Sanctuary for Life it is today. Together, we can continue to advocate, educate and save animal lives in the community.
Sincerely, Your Friends at Animal Rescue, Inc.

It's a Great Time to Adopt!
The sun is shining, the kids are on summer vacation and on days like these, there's nothing better than lounging in the air conditioning with a feline friend or going on long evening walks with a canine companion. What we're trying to say is: Now is a great time to adopt! Animal Rescue, Inc. has hundreds |

of animals waiting for their forever homes. Wouldn't it be nice to share these beautiful days with a furry friend? What are the benefits of adopting now? For dogs, house training is a cinch when you're not standing in cold snow! It's also a great time for parents and children to bond with the dog. The long summer evenings make for great walking time for singles or seniors. For cats, you have the benefit of cool breezes blowing through the windows and that extra time with the family. Now is also the time for kittens, as "kitten season" is upon us! ARI has many cute kittens, "teen" cats, adult cats and lovely senior cats just waiting for their chance to perch on your lap! |
Midge, a senior poodle mix, would be perfect for an older person looking for company. She's a little slow-moving, but she loves to snuggle!

Please note we have additional cats available other than those listed on the website! To learn more about adoptable cats, contact Ashley here. Hope to see you at the rescue! Special Needs
While we appreciate any items on our wishlist, we have a few special needs! Durable, plastic cabinets. Our office could use some durable, plastic cabinets with shelving to replace our ancient, rusting metal cabinets! Sizes from waist-high to 6 feet tall can be used. Dog training materials. Specifically, we're looking for a dummy hand and body to test dogs for potential aggression issues. We can also use an electric fence set for training purposes. Cat Kurandas. These multi-tiered beds are perfect for the kitties at our rescue. You can purchase a Kuranda bed here. Canned Cat Food. ARI staff feeds canned food to our dogs and cats everyday. Lately, we've seen a drop in canned cat food donations and have had to purchase the food. Wet food is an important part of every cat's diet. It serves as a treat, a way to give medication and an additional food source to senior cats, felines who need the additional moisture in canned food and those who simply prefer it to dry kibble. ARI accepts any brand of canned cat food.
All donations are tax-deductible and appreciated!

We also offer pet-assisted therapy, humane education and spay-neuter surgeries, believing that prevention is the key to controlling pet overpopulation.
