Each Local Club Now has a Unique Internet Virtual Address
Charles Carlson

Many local Torch Clubs have requested IATC to provide a website service.  Our website is template driven and uses a hosting service called Affinscape.  Included in the IATC website is a page for each club. We have just altered those club pages so that each club can independently identity its page with a unique virtual address. For example, the Albany Torch Club is http://www.torch.org/albany.  Because the page is hosted on the Torch website, a  viewer can navigate from the club page to anywhere on the Torch website. Each club has a default page, but are encouraged to personalize  its site, add pictures, text, links, documents or change the layout. This means that a Torch club has a uniquely addressed site that can be developed as the club wishes it to be developed.  A number of clubs have already seized upon this opportunity.
I wanted to see how difficult it was to modify the Albany Torch club page and, after a eureka moment, found it was as easy as creating  a Word document.  My first attempt was basic but effective.   I plan to modify it again with a welcoming message, a few pictures and other club information. The Albany Torch club has already reduced the size and cost of its program booklet and plan to include information such as the bylaws and lists of past Presidents and award winners on the club page.
It is rather simple to do and one does not know how to build a website but only have moderate computer skills. There is a variety of computer skills within our membership, and IATC has selected an easy to maintain system for a local club.  Permission to modify must be requested from the Torch office. torchinternational@gmail.com. Jennifer Morrone, (Jennifer@associationbuilders.com) our website designer, can be of great help.  IATC can and does link to existing club websites directly.  Look on the home page of the Torch website for supporting information.

IATC Board of Directors Meeting Nov 19-20, 2011

At the Fall IATC Board of Directors meeting in Norfolk, the main topic to be discussed will be the retention of local clubs and members and the recruitment of new members.  In addition, the Board of Directors will address important issues raised by a number of clubs.  If  any of the local club officers or members have discussion items to propose, email our Newport News office or President Latimer.  The IATC officers have an informal tele-conference the second Tuesday of the month.  The meeting is rather open and informal and President Latimer welcomes all officers or members to participate.
An Important Letter from the President of the Albany Torch Club
Diana

The President of the Torch Club of Albany,  Diana Hinchcliff,  emailed an important letter to the club's membership at the beginning of this Torch year.  In the letter Diana suggested a number of ways to recruit new members to this very active club.  It is not only a good letter for Presidents to send to members, but it is filled with good ideas for the recruitment of members.  Diana's Letter to Members Email Diana
