Alumni Awards Announced
 2012 Cook Alumni Awardees
 

The Cook Community Alumni Association presented the George Hammell Cook Distinguished Alumni Awards for 2012. Honored on April 29, 2012 were (from the left above) Stephen Mahfood, Ag '71, a leader in the environmental, energy and natural resource fields; Heather O'Rourke, Cook '93, well known traffic reporter for Metro Networks; and Anthony Broccoli, Cook '77, M.S. '79 and Ph.D. '98, both GSNB, professor of atmospheric science in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Prasert Chitapong (not pictured), Ph.D. '83 GSNB, received the 2012 Dennis Fenton Outstanding Achievement Award.

Rutgers Rising Plaque
'Rutgers Rising' to Honor Nine; Please Join Us on May 12
Nine members of our community who have passed away will be honored at the 2012 Rutgers Rising remembrance event at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Cook Campus Center. Family and friends will reminisce about the departed, and a bronze nameplate for each will be affixed to the permanent monument on the Rutgers Rising Patio.

Those to be honored this year are Dr. Joan G. Ehrenfeld, Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources; Dr. Richard H. Merritt, Plant Biology and Pathology; Dr. George E.B. Morren Jr., Human Ecology; graduate student Hannah Kelly; retired professor Frederick A. Perkins, Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics; retired professor John Bezpa, Poultry Science; retired professors Eileen G. Brennan and Ida Leone, Plant Science; and retired publications coordinator Russell W. Smith.

Ag Field Day at Rutgers Day Draws 
25,000 to the G.H. Cook Campus
More than one-third of the estimated 70,000 people who enjoyed the 2012 Rutgers Day came to the G.H. Cook Campus to indulge in food, fun and learning. Ag Field Day, which started in 1906, became a Rutgers-wide happening for all the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses four years ago.

Always a fixture on the last Saturday in April, mark your calendar now for April 27, 2013.

Robert L. Barchi Named
20th President of Rutgers
Robert Barchi
Robert L. Barchi -- a renowned neuroscientist, respected educator and academic innovator, and successful fundraiser -- has been named the 20th president of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Barchi will begin serving as president on September 1, 2012. He also has been named a University Professor at Rutgers with academic tenure. The selection was made on April 11, 2012, by the Rutgers University Board of Governors and ratified by the Rutgers University Board of Trustees. Read more about Dr. Barchi and his career here.
