Would you like white or red? Don your gardening gloves and learn the art of vertical shoot positioning at the Rutgers Agricultural Research and Extension Farm in Bridgeton, NJ. What could that be, you ask? Vertical shoot positioning allows for uniform sun exposure to the grape clusters, which leads to superior flavor development. Each participant will get hands-on experience positioning vines for the best result. Your farm experience will also include an educational wagon tour of the farm and wine tasting from a local vineyard. For more information and to register for this event, please visit our website. |

Recap of Recent Events... | Discovery Tour: Amazing Cranberries
| Cranberries are truly amazing! They are among the top foods with proven health benefits according to Amy Howell, research scientist at the Philip E. Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension, which was one of the stops on our Discovery Tour - Amazing Cranberries on October 12. As the skies cleared to a beautiful sunny day, alumni and friends learned about proprietary cranberry breeding at the Integrity Propagation Facility located on the Lee Bros. Cranberry Farm in Chatsworth. After a short drive down a country road, guests learned about a "wet" cranberry harvest from Stephen Lee IV and observed up close how the just-harvested cranberries are unloaded, washed and immediately packed for processing at the Ocean Spray Receiving Plant. (See the item below featuring Dr. Howell's appearance on Dr. Oz.)
"Feeding Nine Billion People in 2050 on a Resource-Limited Planet" An Executive Dean's Distinguished Lecture featured Kenneth G. Cassman, director of the Nebraska Center for Energy Science Research and Heuermann Professor of Agronomy at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Cassman visited the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences on October 20 to deliver two dynamic presentations on sustaining the world's food supply for a growing population that will approach 9.2 billion in the year 2050, while protecting our environmental resources.
