Please welcome Sarah Negovetich, who goes by Sarah Nego, to the Perturbed Parents group where she will be the Group Coordinator.

Sarah is a writer whose favorite genre is YA (fantasy and dystopian). When not writing she works in Marketing for a children's hospital, where, among other things, she's learned that the high school algebra teacher is right: every job uses math.

New Releases
KNEE DEEP
by Jolene Perry
Publication Date: May 1, 2012
Publisher: Tribute Books
Shawn is the guy Ronnie Bird promised her life to at the age of fourteen. He's her soulmate. He's more uptight every day, but it's not his fault. His family life is stressful, and she's adding to it. She just needs to be more understanding, and he'll start to be the boy she fell in love with. She won't give up on someone she's loved for so long.

Luke is her best friend, and the guy she hangs with to watch girlie movies in her large blanketopias. He's the guy she can confide in before she even goes to her girlfriends, and the guy who she's playing opposite in Romeo and Juliet. Now her chest is fluttering every time he gets too close. This is new. Is Ronnie falling for him? Or is Juliet? The lines are getting blurry, but leaving one guy for another is not something that a girl like Ronnie does.

Shawn's outbursts are starting to give her bruises, and Luke's heart breaks as Ronnie remains torn. While her thoughts and feelings swirl around the lines between friendship and forever, she's about to lose them both.

FROM THE SUBMISSIONS MAILBOX

Each month we spotlight one submission to the Submissions Mailbox. This June enjoy the first 500 words of Megan Curd's successful submission!

About Megan: When not writing, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, snowboarding, and mountain biking. Megan currently resides in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with her husband and son.

Title: STEEL LILY
Genre: Dystopian steampunk fantasy YA
Fulls requested by: Heather Howland at Entangled Publishing, Curiosity Quills, Nicole Langan at Tribute Books, and Deidre Knight.

First 500 words:

Steam hissed and billowed out of the tip of the brushed steel teapot in front of me. Within seconds the vapors multiplied and wrapped around me like wispy tendrils that tickled the bare skin of my arms, clouding the classroom from my vision for just a moment. In their wake, they left a dewy spider web that trailed along the ends of my fingers and up onto my gloved palms. The water sunk into the tattered suede and created a miniature constellation of droplets.

Professor Evans clapped her hands together. Her silver bangles clinked and clanked against one another, drawing my attention to her satin covered hands and forearms. It was beyond me why women dressed like they were going to fancy balls to do the work we were currently undertaking. Her soprano voice trilled through the air and regained my attention. "Excellent, Avery, excellent! I've never had a student embrace their abilities so quickly! You will help our society rebuild what the war took from us. Be proud, be proud!"

I turned and glanced behind me at the rest of the class. They didn't seem so impressed. The girl to my immediate left wiped the condensation off her brass goggles as she muttered, "Showoff."

I frowned ever so slightly before I could put my mask of indifference back in place. I promised myself I wouldn't let the age difference get to me, but it was obvious it bothered everyone else. Being fifteen in a classroom full of nineteen-year-old, fourth-year Elementalists was like navigating a maze full of snakes. There was no way I wasn't going to get bit in the butt over something.

A paper wad hit me square in between my shoulder blades. I turned to see who it was.

It was a fifth year Elementalist that hadn't passed this course. I made it a point to not learn names. It made it easier to not care. He popped his gum loudly before addressing me. "Nice work, Avery. Nothing like brown nosing the professor."

"I wasn't brown nosing. If you'd turn off your headphones once in a while, you might be in your proper course and not a fourth year one."

He narrowed his eyes and his lips curled back in a retort, but the girl next to him jabbed him in the ribs. "Let her be," she whispered under her breath just loud enough that I could hear. "It's not like she's got any friends anyway."

I shook my head at them and turned back to my teapot. The girl to my left smirked at me as I tried to absorb what I was looking at.

Where my teapot had once been now sat a bubbling, molten blob of steel. My eyes slid back to the girl.

"That's for getting my goggles wet. I'm going to have to soak them in tonic for the next three classes so they don't rust."

YOUNG ADULT LITERARY MAG LAUNCH

The Young Adult Literary Magazine is the magazine that celebrates you. You, who's slacking off sitting at the back of the class, or the over achiever you who's brown nosing up to Miss What's-Her-Face teaching math.

We cheer the girl with the French horn as she gets the quarterback of the football team. While we hope the head cheerleader falls on her face. Though, to be fare, we must give the cheerleader benefit of the doubt. For all we know she may be pregnant with the quarterback's baby.

All forms of YOU will be portrayed in our magazine. Weather it's coming out to your parents, or telling your brother how you smoked pot for the first time. We're mixing Fiction with non-Fiction, telling stories about real life, from the YOU living it.

Authors and writers will speak about their stories, while actors playing those rolls will speak about the script given to them. Features on musicians will tell us about the poems they wrote which they turned into lyrics.

Of course since this magazine is all about YOU, our contest will feature a picture placed in the Motion Picture category and YOU write us a story telling us what it's about.
