What's New

In March, Veronica, Coryne, Scott & Cameron traveled to Chicago, IL to participate in PLANET's Student Career Fair. This is an annual event that gives us the opportunity to meet with students from around the country pursuing degrees directly related to our industry. They met several very promising students and we offered internships to two of them. They will be joining our team for the summer. We are excited to have both of them on board and look forward to their fresh ideas!

Landscape Notes

It's officially planting time again! Our growers have their best selections and supply of trees, shrubs, ground covers and seasonal color available now. This time of year is the best for "Springing" into action. Sprucing up from the winter brings new life and look to the landscape. So if there are holes in your landscape or more colorful areas you'd like to see, just let us know.

The Spring temperatures we've been having have helped many trees, shrubs and tropicals put out new leaves and blooms. After such cold temperatures this winter, some plants may take a couple more months before they come back to life. That said, as you survey your landscape this Spring don't immediately assume some items are dead from the winter. They may still be alive and waiting for warmer temperatures. Your Account Manager can help you determine what needs to replaced and what is still alive.

Our weed control and fertilization program for lawns is in full swing. We will be finishing up the first application of fertilizer during the beginning of April and we will be applying another weed treatment to the lawns at the end of the month. After the azaleas complete their bloom we will prune them back and fertilize. Two more monthly fertilization applications will follow. Your winter seasonal color is entering it's final stages as the temperatures warm up. We will be watching the color beds and removing any color that is looking bad or dead. Summer color installation begins May 2nd.

Not only does Spring promote new growth, it promotes fungal problems and an increase of insects, both of which like to host and feed on new growth. We will be on the lookout for these issues and treat as necessary.

Earth Day 2011

A Billion Acts of Green®

In recognition of the power of millions of individual actions, Earth Day 2011 will be organized around A Billion Acts of Green®: Personal, organizational and corporate pledges to live and act sustainably.  At over 45 million actions to date, A Billion Acts of Green® campaign - the largest environmental service campaign in the world - is steadily building commitments by individuals, corporations, and governments in honor of Earth Day.  A Billion Acts of Green® inspires and rewards both simple individual acts and larger organizational initiatives that further the goal of measurably reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainability.  The goal is to register one billion actions in advance of the Earth Summit in Rio in 2012.  A Billion Acts of Green® website quantifies acts of green through an easy-to-use online registration tool.  A Billion Acts of Green® demonstrates the kind of environmental impact that can be made when millions of people, corporations and organizations make commitments, both small and large, to better their environment.
