Continue Funding for DD Network
Let the President Know DD Network is Important
Greetings!

As you are aware, federal budget cuts and the need to balance the federal budget could threaten our national developmental disability network that includes Councils, University Centers, and Protection and Advocacy organizations.

There are 2 things you can do to help support the future of the Developmental Disability Network

1)  Contact your US Representative and Senator by December 31, 2011 about the need to fund the North Carolina Developmental Disability Network.

2)  Let the President know the importance of the Developmental Disability Network in meeting the needs of the many individuals with disabilities and their families in North Carolina and across the country.

Please see the details below on how you can TAKE ACTION!

Continue Funding for DD Network

The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) has released the following call to action for each state Council:

************

Between now and the end of the year, Congress is expected to decide on appropriations for the DD Councils for FY 2012.

It is critical for members and supporters of DD Councils to contact their own US Representatives and Senators now.

People may email their Senators and their US Representative or call them directly.

(Suggested email or telephone message may include:)

Subject: Please Support Funding for Developmental Disabilities Councils

Please support federal funding of $74,916,000 for Developmental Disability (DD) Councils in all states and territories for FY 2012.  This is the amount in the draft House Appropriations bill and approved by the full Senate Appropriations Committee.

DD Councils leverage very modest federal funding to develop innovating, cost-effective ways to promote the independence, productivity and integration of people with developmental disabilities. DD Councils are at the forefront of advancing employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

Sincerely,
Council Member Name
Town, state and zip code (very important to include so your Senator/Representative will know  you are a constituent)

Let the President Know Disability Services are Important!

Council members can go online to the White House Office of Public Engagement "Disability Issues Outreach Team"  This allows you to get messages directly from the White House on disability issues.

Only 4000 people in the whole country have done this.  We need more people to sign on to this list to show the President that there is more support for attention to issue facing individuals with disabilities and their families.

The White House conducts monthly disability outreach calls to update the public on disability issues and to hear from constituents. Sign Up to receive alerts about these calls and other announcements related to disability policy.
