One Woman, One Cause
Cassandra Thomas
Chief Compliance Officer
Cassandra Thomas is a
woman of many wonders. A survivor of domestic violence, she's been working for over 30 years within the movement. Cassandra began her career here at the Houston Area Women's Center in 1981 as a volunteer and never left. "As long as I was challenged, I never felt the urge to leave," she said. "I loved every single client. Every client I saw grow energized me to stay. The Center is precious to me, and the cause is even more precious."
Cassandra's expertise, personal experience and presence have impacted all who've had the pleasure of meeting her. It's clear Cassandra has poured every ounce of her passion and effort into serving her clients. Cassandra believes that one person can truly make a difference in this world, and that we are all an intricate part of the whole. "We still have a lot of work to do, a world to change, and it takes each individual person to do it," she said. When asked what her greatest challenge has been, she said that it's the frustration knowing that change is slow, and that there's still work to be done. "We live in a culture where we just don't get it that hurting women and children is not ok, we just don't get it." |
