MRGO Lawsuit Upheld

In 2009, Judge Stanwood Duval ruled that the US Army Corps of Engineers was liable for damages caused by the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) during Hurricane Katrina. The judge in a very, strong ruling said that the dangerous condition of the shipping channel was clearly acknowledged by the Corps for decades. The Corps chose not to take a course of action to remedy the ongoing destruction and degradation of the protective wetlands. The Corps has fought this decision and appealed. On Friday, the 5th Circuit US Court of Appeals upheld the November 2009 landmark decision, which found the Corps liable for catastrophic flooding in the Lower Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish during Hurricane Katrina due to the grossly negligent management of the MRGORead more...

State Master Plan
In February, the state released the draft State Master Plan which could be approved by the legislature in the spring. This plan would be in effect for five years until the next required revision in 2017. LPBF participated on the Framework Development Team and has extensively reviewed the State Master Plan. We believe the plan is a bold step toward sustainable and affordable coastal projects.  Read more...

New Artificial Reef in Lake
A new artificial reef has been put in Lake Pontchartrain by the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The reef was built from materials from the old Twin Span bridge and is four-acres wide.  Another great spot for fishing in Lake Pontchartrain!
