Cypress Swamp Restoration Project

The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation partnered with the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana on November 1, 2, & 3 to do a cypress swamp restoration project near the Caernarvon Diversion in Plaquemines Parish. This project promotes a healthy cypress forest on land that has been accumulating from sediment outflow from the Caernarvon Diversion.  The restored cypress forest will provide critical habitat for wildlife and provide storm protection to the adjacent marsh and communities. Volunteers canoed out to the planting site and planted cypress trees from the canoes along the marsh edge. Hundreds of bald cypress trees were planted on November 2 and November 3.
