Wayne Schaltenbrand, 67, passed away unexpectedly September 29. He was an adjunct IPFW chemistry faculty between 1990 and 1997, teaching a variety of freshman laboratory courses. Schaltenbrand received degrees in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania (Kutztown) and Purdue. He was deeply involved in the local Fort Wayne theatre scene as an actor and director for many years, and was a founding member of Fort Wayne's Arena Dinner Theatre. Theatre Department Granted Accreditation
The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) has granted accreditation and membership to the IPFW Department of Theatre and its Bachelor of Arts: Theatre (acting, design/technology, directing). This is the first time the department has received NAST accreditation. Chair and Professor of Theatre John O'Connell, who also serves as interim dean of VPA, is pleased with the accreditation. "Being recognized by the national accrediting agency confirms that the IPFW Department of Theatre maintains a program of the highest quality, producing theatre students ready and equipped to compete with students from any other program in the country," said O'Connell. In its recently released rankings of the best colleges and universities in the United States, U.S. News and World Report deemed the undergraduate business and engineering programs at IPFW to be among the best in the country. 2013 Purdue Voluntary Benefits Sessions
Are you considering the High Deductible Purdue Choice Plan for 2013 but want financial security? Take a strategic look at how Purdue Voluntary Benefits can work in partnership with the Choice Plan:
- Wednesday, October 24, 9:30--10:30 a.m. or 3--4 p.m. in KT 117
- Thursday, October 25, 10--11 a.m. in NF 133 or 2:30--3:30 p.m. in LA 16
Experts will present information on these voluntary plans:
- Critical illness insurance
- Accident insurance
- Universal life insurance
Cost varies, and an average premium is $5--12 per week. Following the sessions, employees may sign up for an appointment with an enrollment counselor through Benefits at IPFW. 2013 benefits open enrollment is October 29 through November 16. "Love Heals: The Power of Healthy Relationships" is the theme of the 2012 Mental Health Day, Thursday, October 11.
