Supervise for Success Program

Save Money with Bulk Mail
Shipping and Receiving has a bulk mail permit that allows IPFW departments to save money (26--35/pc.) when there are at least 200 pieces of standard mail of identical content and the address list has been processed through the National Change of Address (NCOA) database. The NCOA identifies addresses that are invalid and will be undeliverable or the addressee has moved. Here's how it works:
  1. For bulk mailings of 4,000 or more pieces, contact Dawn Holcomb, holcomb@ipfw.edu, at least two weeks in advance of the expected mail date.
  2. Send the current address list for the bulk mailing to Dawn in Excel format.
  3. Shipping and Receiving will run the list through the database and make the corrections.
  4. Shipping and Receiving will send you the changes so you can update your mailing list.
  5. If IPFW Printing Services is printing your mailing, check the "Retain for Automatic Bulk Mailing" on the print request form. If you are preparing the mailing yourself, contact Shipping and Receiving at 481-6158 for pickup. Contact Dawn with any questions about design, content, or instructions.
Test Your IPFW Editorial Style

There were no correct answers for last week's puzzler, "What is an acceptable way to refer to a degree? Jones holds an MBA, has an MBA, received her MBA, or received an MBA degree." The correct answer is "Jones has an MBA." Earned or received would also be good choices.

  • Avoid usage of hold, his, and her in reference to degree possession.
  • The word degree should not follow a degree designation (or its abbreviation) because it is redundant.

This week's question: Which of these dates follows IPFW editorial style?

  1. August 1, 2012
  2. Aug. 1, 2012
  3. August 1, 2011
  4. Aug. 1 (this year)

Send your response to inside@ipfw.edu, then check back next week for the answer. IPFW Editorial Style Guide (PDF) ...
