ORES Adopts New Name and Responsibilities
Albayyari The Office of Research and External Support (ORES) became the Office of Research, Engagement, and Sponsored Programs (RESP) on July 1. J. Albayyari, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, will now have administrative oversight of Academic Affair's community engagement efforts, including the Office of Academic Internships, Cooperative Education, and Service Learning (OACS) and Indiana Campus Compact, in addition to his administrative responsibilities under the former ORES.

WaltersIn recognition of the natural synergy between RESP and University Relations and Communications (URC), Albayyari will co-chair the Community Engagement Council with Irene Walters, executive director of URC. This arrangement will capitalize upon the strong momentum generated by the Carnegie Engagement process.

2011-12 Employee Parking Permits
parking lotEmployee parking permits for 2011--12 are now available at the University Police Department in the Support Services Building. The rate this fiscal year is $150 for full-time employees and $75 for part-time.

The new permits will be referred to as employee parking permits instead of "A" permits, due to an ongoing way-finding project.

Test Your IPFW Editorial Style

Susan Leist was the first person to correctly answer last week's puzzler, "What is the designation for 8 o'clock in the evening: 8 PM, 8:00 p.m., or 8 p.m.?"

8 p.m. is correct. Omit the zeros for on-the-hour times; use periods in a.m. and p.m.

This week's question:  An en dash (--) is longer than a hyphen (-). Which of these uses of the en dash is correct?

  1. 8--9 p.m.
  2. Indiana University--Purdue University Fort Wayne
  3. July 11--17
  4. All of the above
  5. None of the above

Send your response to inside@ipfw.edu, then check back next week for the answer. IPFW Editorial Style Guide (PDF) ...
