Test Your IPFW Editorial Style

Nedra Curry was the only person to correctly answer last week's puzzler, "Which is incorrect: Professor John Smith; John Smith, associate professor of anthropology; or John Smith, associate professor of Anthropology?" Number 3 is incorrect. In text, personal titles immediately preceding a name are capitalized; those following a name are set off by commas and not capitalized.

This week's question: In text, which title is correct for John Smith, who has earned a doctorate in biology?

  1. Dr. John Smith, Ph.D.
  2. John Smith, Ph.D.
  3. Dr. John Smith

Send your response to, then check back next week for the answer. IPFW Editorial Style Guide (PDF) ...
