Training Session for IEEE Xplore Database Users

A new interface for the IEEE Xplore database and some new features and information are available at the Helmke Library. A training session will be held May 25 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on the library's fourth floor.
A representative from IEEE will share updates and answer questions. For information, call 481-6511 or e-mail mugambif@ipfw.edu.

Matt Kubik receives DECCO Award for Innovative Online Teaching.
Matthew Kubik, associate professor of interior design and instructor for the Online Learning Department of IPFW's Division of Continuing Studies, has been awarded the DECCO Award for Innovative Online Teaching.
The award honors excellence in teaching for both full-time and part-time faculty, and recognizes innovative approaches to online teaching. Recipients are awarded $1,000 in professional development funds. View full story...

IPFW's Collegiate Connection School-Based Program Receives NACEP Accreditation
The Division of Continuing Studies' Collegiate Connection Program has been accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP). The program is part of the DCS Off-Campus, Weekend, and Accelerated Programs Department.
IPFW is the first Hoosier institution of higher learning to receive this designation since the Indiana Commission for Higher Education instituted its Dual Credit policy and Double-Up law in 2005 and 2006. View full story...

Engineering Students Win NSWC Crane Undergraduate Design Contest
Teams from IPFW, the University of Louisville, the University of Southern Indiana, Butler University, and IUPUI traveled to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) April 19 to compete in the inaugural NSWC Crane Undergraduate Design Contest.
The problem: the camera mounted to a Naval weapon system blanks-out during firing. Students were tasked to engineer a solution that isolates the camera and minimizes vibrations, while allowing it to be continuously monitored during firing.
IPFW claimed victory and the $1,000 prize, followed by U of L, USI, and Butler/IUPUI. View full story...

Office of Academic Affairs Appointments Announced
IPFW Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs William McKinney is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments:
- Director of General Education - Dustin Moore, associate professor philosophy, effective January 2011
- Director of Research Compliance - Jeannie DiClementi, associate professor psychology, effective April 2011
- Director of Assessment - Suleiman Ashur, associate professor of civil engineering, effective May 2011.
- Director of the IPFW Honors Program - Robert Gillespie, associate professor of biology, effective July 2011
In addition, IPFW's Executive Director of Major Scholarships and Honors, Laurie Bell, assumes directorship of the Chapman Scholars Program effective July 2011.

Summer Fun for Your Children at The Learning Community
Children ages 6 through 12 will find engaging educational activities this summer at The Learning Community. The summer enrichment program will run from June 14 through Aug. 18. Weekly sessions will explore areas such as art, science, math, and history, as well as music and movement. Discounts are available for the IPFW community.
