IPFW Construction Class Grabs Top Engineering Honors at Plank-A-Palooza

Plank-a-palooza 2011Two teams of students from Regina Leffers' Sustainable Construction class competed at the Plank-A-Palooza event last month. Top Engineering honors went to the team of Brandon Davis, Kyle Haber, Mark Middleton, Taylor Willoughby, and Tyler Bonar.

 

Plank-A-Palooza is a fund-raising event in which teams use 500 KEVA planks to design and build a structure in 30 minutes. No glue or other fasteners can be used. The event is intended to create interest in math and science and encourages creativity and collaboration.

COAS Launches Weekly Podcasts

Vistas and Viewpoints LogoGenocide, antiviral research, and geometry are just a few of the topics that hit the Web this week in a new podcast series sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. "Vistas and Viewpoints" is available for free through IPFW's iTunes U page. The series features weekly conversations between COAS faculty and Dean Carl Drummond concerning research in humanities, sciences and mathematics, and the social sciences. Free Tickets Needed for Omnibus Lectures

Omnibus LogoThis year's Omnibus Lecture Series is drawing record crowds. So that no guests will be turned away, free tickets will be required for all lectures, including the upcoming March 16 lecture with accomplished musician Patrick Henry Hughes.

 

Tickets can be requested at 260-481-6555, boxoffice@ipfw.edu, or the Schatzlein Box office in the Rhinehart Music Center, Monday-Friday, 12:30-6:30 p.m. Guests should convey any special needs when requesting tickets so that priority seating can be provided. Tickets will hold seats until 7:15 p.m., when they will be offered to stand-by patrons.

In the National Spotlight
Marc Morial, president of he National Urban League, visited four cities in Indiana earlier this month to promote the League's 12-point Jobs Rebuild America plan. Morial was at IPFW February 24 and mentioned the visit in his syndicated column.
