Assessor's Department
Real Estate Property Tax Bills

Cook County homeowners can expect to receive their second installment real estate bills in early July 2012, instead of the late fall date that has become the norm in recent decades.

The change is the result of Cook County completing the review and processing of all real estate valuation appeals for tax year 2011.  Completion in April is unprecedented and a result of a bipartisan effort at the Cook County Board of Review to speed up the process.

Illinois state statutes are that real estate tax bills are to go out in July each year and payable August 1st.  However, since the early 1970s Cook County has not complied with this state statute.  2011 second installment property tax bills will be due August 1, 2012.  Property owners should plan for this expedited schedule and ensure they have the funds available to pay their real estate taxes on time.

2012 Tax Year Appeals

It is estimated that Northfield Township will be open for appeals for the 2012 tax in August, for a four week period.  Staff at Northfield Township will be available to assist any taxpayer who may need guidance in the research process.  They are also willing to review appeals before they are submitted for consideration to ensure the most effective methodologies have been used.  Homeowners interested in filing an appeal can do so at Northfield Township, 3801 West Lake Avenue, Glenview or at Cook County's suburban offices: 5600 Old Orchard Road, Room 149, Skokie or 2121 Euclid Avenue, Room 3021, Rolling Meadow.  Further information can be obtained by calling Northfield Township at 847-724-8300.

New Property Tax Information Website

In early April 2012, Cook County unveiled www.cookcountypropertyinfo.com, a one-stop property tax information website that combines information from various county offices into one unified site, allowing residents access to a streamlined process to handle all their property tax issues.

Illinois Yellow Dot
Got the Dot?
The Illinois Department of Transportation recently unveiled the Illinois Yellow Dot program, a life-saving traffic safety initiative that provide first responders with critical information to improve emergency care for people involved in vehicle crashes.

Each Yellow Dot participant is supplied with a simple, bright yellow decal for their car and a corresponding yellow folder.  The decal is placed in the lower left hand corner of the rear window.  The yellow dot signifies that there is a folder in the glove compartment containing important medical information about the motorist, such as emergency contact information, patient's physician information, medical conditions, recent surgeries, allergies and a list of current medications.
