Our Ritual of New Beginnings

Ingathering marks return to three
services this weekend

Mary Katherine Morn
Parish Minister
Rev. Mary Katherine Morn
Have you seen the butterflies this year? They seem more magnificent and abundant than other years. Watching them out of my window (right now) I am engaging in one of many rituals that come around this time of year. Sending a child to school yesterday was another. Maybe you have your own "fall is almost here" rituals ...

We mark this time at UUCF with our annual Ingathering Service and Picnic. We return this weekend to our three-service schedule (Saturday 4:30 p.m., Sunday 9:15 and 11:15 a.m.). And on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. we will gather on the grounds for an all-congregation picnic - you bring a side, we'll grill you a veggie burger (or a regular hotdog or hamburger!). You bring the spirit of fun, we'll paint your face! You can also bring a friend, a volleyball a Frisbee or any kind of fun you'd like to share.

For our services we will welcome back Matt Meyer, UU traveling percussionist and worship leader. Saturday we will have the UUCF House Band and Sunday morning we welcome back the Chorale. If you collected water to share, please bring a small amount for our water communion. And do bring a friend. We will come back into community for the new year with high energy and high hopes.

- Mary Katherine

Ingathering Picnic

So many activities! So much fun!

Sat., Sep. 8, 5:30 p.m.

There will be so many choices at this year's Ingathering, you won't know what to do first. Play volleyball, hang out with the ventriloquist, or have a burger? Get your face painted or have your fortune told? Maybe get a little sno-cone "brain freeze" or play with balloon animals. You can also bring and share your own outdoor games.

Food is easy this year. UUCF will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, soft drinks and cake. To ensure we have a good variety of dishes, we're asking you to bring items according to the first letter of your last name: A-G appetizer/munchies, H-O side dish, P-Z salad.

In addition to a dish to share, please bring lawn chairs and a blanket to sit on.

For questions, or if you'd like to volunteer for cleanup, contact Mary Foster, 703-282-4230.

We have a golf cart!

Drivers and riders needed

We know mobility around our campus can be a struggle for some. Good news! We now have a golf cart to help make getting from place to place much easier.

UUCF has partnered with the Shepherd's Center to purchase a golf cart to provide "door-to-door" service for activities during the week and weekends.

Drivers and riders are needed. To volunteer to drive, you need to be 18 or older and have a valid driver's license. Training will be provided. Contact Mary Foster.

If you would like to schedule a ride for an activity or have any questions about the golf cart please contact Mary, 703-281-4240.
