A Weekend of Music
11th Annual Youth and Teen Performing Arts Celebration (and Spaghetti Dinner!)
This event has become a fun annual tradition at UUCF. Come for the Saturday worship service, then share some dinner and experience the musical gifts of our youth. You'll hear a range of music performed by soloists, duets and groups. This is a family-friendly event. - 4:30 p.m. - Worship Service
- 6 p.m. - Spaghetti Dinner
- 6:45 p.m. - Performances
Suggested donations: adults - $10; children/youth - $5 New Dominions Concert  Sun., Apr. 15, 7 p.m., Sanctuary Every year we look forward to a visit from this amazing a cappella singing group from the University of Virginia. This marks the group's 11th annual appearance at UUCF. We can thank UUCF's Addis-Lieser family for arranging for these concerts each year. There has been a member of their family in the group every year but one since the first concert, and this will be the last UUCF concert for Julia Addis-Lieser, who will graduate in May. This is a family-friendly event. Admission free, but donations gratefully accepted. |
This Week and Weekend
Volunteer Fair for Boomers and Seniors. Thu., Apr. 12, 10 a.m.-noon, Sanctuary. UUCF is hosting a "Venture Into Volunteering" fair, sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Family Services and Volunteer Fairfax, to help adults find meaningful volunteer experiences. Lots of area non-profits will be represented.

Do You Really See Others? How do They Really See You? Sun., Apr. 15, 10:30-11:15 a.m., Social Hall. In light of the passion surrounding Trayvon Martin's death, join us for a discussion about the unspoken rules and personal reflections on everyday interactions with different cultures. All are welcome. Hosted by the UUCF class, "Building the World We Dream About."

UUCF: A Sociological Perspective - Science, Reason and Religion Forum. Sun., Apr. 15, 12:30 p.m., Chapel. " With John Monroe. Does the theological diversity of UU congregations set us apart from other mainstream denominations? Sociologists have developed a number of typologies and theories that provide useful insights into what makes UUism tick, and suggest we are not as different as we might think.
Our Unitarian Universalist Story. Six Sundays at 4 p.m., Apr. 15-May 20. This six-session course traces the various threads that have led to the creedless and inclusive faith that is contemporary Unitarian Universalism. Facilitated by Wini Atlas. Preregister by Apr. 13.

Annual Giving Campaign Update - Please Make Your Pledge! The official pledge campaign is over but we are still a long way from our goal! We are waiting to hear from about 125 member households and are $200,000 short of our goal of $1.1 million. If you have not yet made your pledge for the Jul. 2012- Jun. 2013 operating budget, please do so right away. We need to hear from you, whether or not you think you can make a pledge, so we can finalize our budget for the coming year.
Buy Books! Support Social Justice! The UUA Bookstore is raising funds for two Phoenix immigration justice groups in support of 2012 Justice General Assembly (GA): The Comités de Defensa del Barrio (CDBs) and Puente AZ. Here's how to help: 1. Buy books online, or in person at the UUA Bookstore at GA. 2. When checking out, use the promotional code "PhoenixGA." For every purchase using this code they'll make a contribution equal to 5% of your purchase equally divided between the two groups. If sales using the code exceed $100,000, they'll double their donation on the remaining sales - up to a total of $15,000!
Flower Donors Needed. Do you have an event or a person you want to honor? Each week our wonderful flower team creates arrangements to add to our worship experience, but we need sponsors. For just $50 you can pick a weekend and we will publish your dedication. Sign up now on the chart on the bulletin board in the hallway near the Music Room, or by email.

VOICE at UUCF. Tue., Apr. 24, 7:30 p.m., Program Building. Meeting about VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement) will include briefing on recent VOICE initiatives, near future plans and UUCF pariticpation in coming events. Attention Youth and Parents of Youth: FUUSE Applications Due May 4. The Fairfax Unitarian Universalist Summer Experience (FUUSE) will again place high school-aged interns from UUCF with social action, educational and social service agencies in Fairfax County this summer. Ragan Oaks Community Center. Volunteers are needed one hour per week in the following areas: ESL Teachers, GED Teachers, Homework Help for Elementary School Children, Homework Help for Middle/High School Students, Computer Lab and Senior Boys and Girls Groups. These positions offer rewarding experiences working with underprivileged youth. It's easy and fun. If you are interested, please contact Steve Myles. UUCF Church Partner Youth E-pal Program. Interested in becoming an e-pal with youth who live in Khasi Hills, India? An e-pal is just like a pen pal, except you keep in touch via email. To read more about the Khasi Hills go to this blog.
