My father sexually molested me my entire childhood. After telling a friend whose mother called the police, I was placed in the foster system for about 3 years. When my father went to prison I went back to live with my alcoholic mother but when he was released, I left home on my own. I was just 16... I am so blessed to have a safe haven and opportunity to get back on my feet.

I found myself homeless and on the streets, having lost my job at the supermarket.  My son helped me find a place here with Grandma's House of Hope. Being here makes me feel happy and this week I actually laughed really hard for a long time!

I am thankful every day for another day being clean and sober. I have been at Grandma's House for almost 2 years, held the same job, bought a car and am getting ready to find a place of my own. Thank you to Charlene who takes such good care of us and to Je'net for putting a roof over our heads. Let's watch some football!

Due to the struggling economy, the demand for nutritional support for the motel children in our Nana's Kidz program has increased significantly. We now serve 185 children in Orange County and provide over 113,960 meals to children living in homeless conditions. That is an increase of nearly 30,000 meals from 2009. Not to mention, there are over 600 children on our waiting list for this program. Nearly 200 at just one motel location in the city of Anaheim.

The unfortunate truth is that, although needs have increased, funds have not. In fact, by this time last year, GHH had already received 3 grants from foundations to help support our program. These are funders that are just not able to respond this year, having drastically reduced their giving for 2010.

Because of this, we really need the support of individuals like yourself to help us keep feeding children over the weekends and summer months when school is not in session.

The children that we feed rely almost entirely on the school cafeteria as their primary source of food. They are also faced with the additional hardship of living in a homeless condition, such as a motel or doubled and tripled up with other families in a small space.

With a one time gift of $100, you can feed one child for 10 weeks this summer.  Your generous donation will provide that child with 21 meals every week!  In addition, each child in our program will receive a backpack and back to school supplies in August, before school resumes. Your gift of $25 will provide all the necessary tools a child needs to go back to school knowing that they are ready to learn!

Please consider a gift to Nana's Kidz in the month of April or May so that we can continue our summer program and make it even bigger and better than last year. The children that depend on us for support will be so grateful!!  You will know that you enlarged your family (and your heart) this summer! Please remember that even the smallest gift can make a huge difference in the life of someone in desperate need.

To make a donation, please visit our website at: www.grandmashouseofhope.org or mail a check to Grandma's House of Hope, 174 West Lincoln Ave, #541, Anaheim, CA 92804
