Gallery XII - An Artist's Cooperative

Wichita's first cooperative gallery, started by 12 artists in September of 1977.  For the first ten years, Gallery XII was located at 2903 E. Douglas and then moved to its current location at 412 E. Douglas.

Gallery XII is a not-for-profit corporation and all of its members are on its Board of Directors and have an equal vote and say on Gallery procedures and decisions.

The major objective of Gallery XII is to provide an opportunity for its members to exhibit and sell their work to the public, to provide a supportive environment for creative stimulation and to promote the visual arts in the city of Wichita and the state of Kansas.

Gallery XII, as a Fine Arts Gallery, exhibits original art in a wide range of media: paintings, printmaking, photography, drawings, pastels, fiber art, watercolors, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, glassworks, as well as a diverse range of artistic styles (realism, abstract, impressionism, figurative, landscape, traditional, and contemporary).

The artists of Gallery XII have committed themselves to actively participate in many local and state art events, including the Final Friday Gallery Walk, donating time and artworks to charity organizations such as Art Aid, Women Crisis Center, and supporting other local arts organizations such as The Wichita Center for the Arts, City Arts, the Wichita Art Museum, and  the Ulrich Museum.

Make sure to visit Gallery XII at their Birthday Open House tomorrow!

"Bricktown leader to speak in Wichita on downtown renovation" Wichita Eagle

THE PRIORITY PROJECT
The Priority Project

At a news conference representatives from the public and private sectors announced three top priorities recommended for keeping south-central Kansas competitive for people and jobs. Visioneering, along with Young Professionals of Wichita (YPW) and the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation (WDDC), responded to a challenge late last year from Mayor Brewer and Sedgwick County Commissioner Dave Unruh, who was Chair of the County Commission at the time. They asked Visioneering to identify areas of momentum to focus on in the next three years to ensure the region is competitive.

The top three priorities, as identified by the citizens of our region are:

Things to Do: Develop more Downtown Wichita activities and events for individuals and families of all ages.

Places to Work: Diversify our local economy by keeping industries already here and recruiting new jobs in new industries

People: Increase the number of people in the region who advance their post-high school education, either through degrees, certificates or re-training opportunities

NEED MONEY FOR AN ART PROJECT?
We Make Art Happen

WeMakeArtHappen.com is based on micro-giving, also called micro-funding or crowd-sourcing. It's basically this: You need $20,000 for an art project but you don't know anyone with pockets that deep. So, instead of asking one person or maxing out your credit cards, you put your project details on this web site. Now you can ask 2,000 people, 20,000 people, 200,000 people or more who believe in what you're doing to collaborate with you by donating small gifts toward your project.

To get involved, all you have to do is submit a short pitch of your project idea to our team, create the categories and rewards for different levels of "collaborators" and once your project is posted it's up to you to generate buzz and awareness. Tell everyone you know. Post social media messages until your fingers are raw. Scream from the top of your house. Market yourself. Do whatever you have to do to draw people to your project page. We're about community building here, about sparking change and helping ideas spread. More info
