Kansas Leadership Center and Kansas Health Foundation Conference Center
The Kansas Health Foundation broke ground on the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) and Kansas Health Foundation Conference Center at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25. Affectionately nicknamed "the living room of Kansas" by Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer, the new building will also serve as KLC's headquarters.
The 36,000-square-foot LEED-certified Center will be built on the parking lot adjacent to the Foundation's building at 309 East Douglas in downtown Wichita. The Foundation owns the land.
KLC expects to bring about 1,000 Kansans a year to its headquarters for leadership training programs, and additional people for meetings and conferences, including alumni meetings. It has more than 1,500 alumni throughout Kansas.
The Kansas Leadership Center and Kansas Health Foundation Conference Center supports a major initiative of Project Downtown, The Master Plan of Wichita, designed to develop the city's business district.
Since Project Downtown was adopted, Wichita is now seeing the first complete development of the first full city block in Downtown. To showcase this achievement, the core group leading the development in this area announced today they have selected the name Block One to be used as a reference location point when speaking of the major organizations and tenants that are members of the block.
