This afternoon the Wichita City Council approved the Douglas Place Development; the first project reviewed through the City's Public Investment Policy. This is a significant project in the further development of Downtown Wichita. It provides the vision and public/private investment that will transform an entire city block in the heart of Downtown. "Utilizing design principles of Project Downtown, the Master Plan for Wichita - the project will greatly contribute to the synergy of Downtown's redevelopment and prominence as a destination city," noted Jeff Fluhr, President of WDDC.

The project will convert a prominent historic Douglas Avenue building into a 117-room boutique hotel, the construction of a new 282 space parking structure at the corner of William and Topeka, and a new urban park connecting these investments.

The development team consists of Old Town Developer, Dave Burk, noted national boutique hotel developer and operator Paul Coury and Dave Wells of Key Construction. The design team is WDM Architects, MKEC, and Ruggles & Bohm. Work on the project will commence later this month and it is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.  More information will be forthcoming on the schedule of the bidding and construction of the publicly owned parking structure.
