BirdcageCinema Alfresco - The Birdcage (1996): Rock Island Studios - 338 N. Mead. 7:30 pm. The Tallgrass Film Association presents the ninth annual summertime Cinema Alfresco season. Screenings, are free of charge and open to the public. Films will show rain or shine on Thursdays from May 26 through July 28. This season's theme, "Get Twisted," will focus on films with twist endings, plot twists or films that are just plain twisted. Each film will be preceded by a Tallgrass Film Festival short film and at every screening, there will be drawing for a VIP TALLPass ($175) to the ninth annual Tallgrass Film Festival in October. Winners must be present to win. Under 21 welcome.   

 

Desperate Housewives of Sedgwick County: Mosley Street Melodrama - 234 N. Mosley. 263-0222. 6:00 pm. Show runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Evenings. Doors open at 6:00pm, the buffet opens at 6:15pm, and the show starts at 7:50pm. Dinner & Show Tickets - $26 (aduluts), $22 (age 60+), $20 (ages 12 & under). Show Only Tickets - $16 all ages.

 

Cabaret: Orpheum Theatre - 200 N. Broadway. 7 pm. A divinely decadent experience! Tickets just $5 at the door, $4 for seniors, military & student tickets available.

Final Friday

Nursery Rhyme Time: Central Library - 223 S. Main. 10:30 am. 261-8500. Music, rhymes, activities and stories for children ages 2 and under with an adult helper. (20 Minutes)

 

Final Friday Art Crawl: Various Venues. 6 pm. For a map click here.  As the name implies, Final Friday happens the last Friday of each month. Hours vary between different galleries but all are open during the core hours of 7 pm  to 9 pm. Most galleries use Final Friday to unveil and debut new shows. The event is free and open to the public and several galleries provide light refreshments.This Final Friday includes 2 special Walking Trail events from 6 to 8:30 pm. The Art Trail will have Kansas artists creating really cool art along the trail including Wichita native, Jordan Tarrant. Tarrant paints using words to create his murals. Tarrant will be working on a mural of William Shakespeare using the 52 words and 47 phrases that Shakespeare invented. The mural is just east of the railroad overpass on 1st Street in Old Town. The American Indian Trail will feature the sights and sounds of the Indian Culture. The Mid-America All-Indian Center will welcome both singers and drums to the trail. The Museum will be open from 6 pm to 8 pm that evening should the walkers wish to immerse themselves in the Art of the Plains Indians.

Old Town Farmers Mkt.

 Old Town Farmers Market: The Old Town Farmers' Market, 1st and Mosley, 7 am. It is an exciting and bountiful place to buy your fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs, baked goods and plants. Along with yummy and green things, find lots of unique, artistic and handmade treasures. There are tie dyes, jewelry, oils & incense, treats for your canine friend and much more.

Chef's demos at 9am and live local musicians from 10-noon make supporting local growers fun!

We are excited to welcome back KIDS CORNER this year. Each week between 9-11am there will be a fun craft to make, an original coloring sheet drawn by Jaki McElroy and a relaxing spot where kids can listen to & read stories.

Buskers Welcome

Did you know that buskers, another term for street performers, are welcome in Downtown Wichita?  While no license is required, performers are not permitted to sell merchandise.  However, tipping is allowed and encouraged.  So, the next time you encounter a busker - stop, look and listen - then remember to tip more than just your hat!

Park 'n Ride Looking for a place to park?  Find thousands of parking spaces online at Parkdowntown.org.  Once parked, look for a Q-Line stop close to you and ride the Q.  The FREE Downtown trolley operates Monday-Saturday evenings!

River City Brewery

Located in the heart of Old Town at 150 N. Mosley, The River City Brewing Co. is Wichita's only brewpub still in operation. You will find six different styles of microbrews, including their ever changing seasonal beer that celebrates the diversity of beer from all around the world. Don't be mistaken by their name, they offer more than just a brewery. Come in and check out their menu that includes buffalo and Kansas raised beef, but it that's not all. They also offer great pastas, seafood, salads, sandwiches, and unique pizzas. People have a great time at the Brewery. Join them, and you will too!
