Baby Jane PosterCinema Alfresco: Rock Island Studios - 338 N. Mead. 7:30pm.  The Tallgrass Film Association presents the ninth annual summertime Cinema Alfresco season. Screenings, which are free of charge and open to the public, will Thursdays from May 26 through July 28. Films will show rain or shine. This season's theme, "Get Twisted," will focus on films with twist endings, plot twists or films that are just plain twisted. Each film will be preceded by a Tallgrass Film Festival short film and at every screening, there will be drawing for a VIP TALLPass ($175) to the ninth annual Tallgrass Film Festival in October. Winners must be present to win. Under 21 welcome.

Walking Trail Sign - EP

Final Friday Art Crawl: Various Venues. 6pm. Hours vary between different galleries but all are open during core hours of 7pm - 9pm. Most galleries use Final Friday to unveil and debut new shows. The event is free and open to the public and several galleries provide light refreshments.  For a map of downtown venues click here.  

 

Sculpture WalkAbout Unveling Ceremony: 1st and Mosley. 5:30 pm. The artistic program was iniated by Mayor Carl Brewer and is implemented by the Arts Council in cooperation with the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. Sculpture WalkAbout Wichita showcases work by area artists and contributes to the "walkable" quality of the city which is often mentioned as a key factor in the City's Downtown initiative. Mayor Brewer, County Commission Chair Dave Unruh, Dora Timmerman-Bayer and Judy Goodpasture, chairs of the Arts Council Sculpture WalkAbout Committee will speak briefly. So come out and enjoy the art and vote for your favorite sculpture!

 

Interactive Walking Trails:  On each Final Friday of the month from 6 to 8:30 pm, from May to September the Walking Trails will come to life. On the chosen Final Friday each museum will present a free sidewalk celebration of entertainment along their trail. This month it is The Exploration Trail. Exploration Place volunteers will give walkers clues to solve a "crime," getting a taste of crime scene investigation (CSI) techniques. This Final Friday Museum Mystery is all part of the national traveling exhibit, CSI: The Experience, opening at Exploration Place on Saturday, May 28.  For a map of the trail click here

Bottle ShockOld Town Farmers Market: The Old Town Farmers' Market, 1st and Mosley, 7 am. It is an exciting and bountiful place to buy your fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs, baked goods and plants. Along with yummy and green things, find lots of unique, artistic and handmade treasures. Local artist Jaki McElroy will be drawing caricatures. There are tie dyes, jewelry, oils & incense, treats for your canine friend and much more.

Chef's demos at 9am and live local musicians from 10-noon make supporting local growers fun!

We are excited to welcome back KIDS CORNER this year. Each week between 9-11am there will be a fun craft to make, an original coloring sheet drawn by Jaki and a relaxing spot where kids can listen to & read stories.
