Become a Hosting Site Sponsor for Medical Student PM&R Externships
The AAP is now accepting site sponsor applications for RREMS and MSSCE.  MSSCE, a new program sponsored by the AAP and the Roosevelt Warm Springs Foundation, focuses on PM&R clinical exposure, while RREMS continues to focus on Rehabilitation Research:

Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS) has been developed for medical students with strong research interests.  This program will provide an exciting and structured research experience while exposing the medical student to some of the most successful faculty members in the field of PM&R.

Medical Student Summer Clinical Externship (MSSCE) has been developed for medical students with a strong desire for clinical experience in the field of PM&R and who are eagerly seeking opportunities to see patients.  This program aims to provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical exposure and to allow students to explore the human side of patient care and the psychosocial environments their patients face.

New ACGME Requirement Proposal

There is a new ACGME requirement that is being proposed that requires medical students to complete an ACGME-accredited internship before entering a ACGME accredited program (effective 2014) or fellowship (effective 2015.)

The AAP and AAPMR formed an ad hoc workgroup to develop a joint response to the proposal by the November 23rd ACGME response deadline.

The workgroup was composed of 3 Academy representatives and 3 AAP representatives. The AAP was the lead organization in this effort and the workgroup was chaired by Susan Garstang, MD, past AAP board member and the current Chair of the AAP Residency & Fellowship Program Directors Council.

If you would like to provide individual comments to ACGME please do so by November 23, 2011:
