Abstract submissions for Paper and Poster Presentations at the 2012 AAP Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, February 28 - March 3, 2012 are due September 12, 2011.  Visit the AAP website for details and to submit your abstract online.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2012 Program for Academic Leadership (PAL).  Applications are due October 28, 2011.

2012 AAP Annual Meeting Program details will be released in the Preliminary Program that will accompany your AAP Summer Newsletter.  Registration will open and the Preliminary Program will be available on www.physiatry.org September 6, 2011.

Online Submission for 2012 AAP Annual Meeting Papers and Posters is Open through September 12, 2011
Please visit the AAP website  to view instructions and guidelines and to submit your abstract. All abstracts must be submitted online by September 12, 2011.

The Abstract Online Submission process via the AAP website provides a unique opportunity for co-authors to collaborate in reviewing and submitting abstracts.  All co-authors have the ability to preview and comment on their abstracts prior to officially submitting for review. In addition, all disclosure and copyright agreements are collected online in a convenient electronic format.  Bernadette Rensing will be available for questions throughout this process at brensing@physiatry.org..


2012 Program for Academic Leadership (PAL)
The Association of Academic Physiatrists is sponsoring the Program for Academic Leadership (PAL).  Led by Gary S. Clark, MD, CPE, MMM, PAL is a three-year program to develop academic leadership skills in junior PM&R faculty. The goal of PAL is to provide a basic administrative framework and skill set to promising physiatric academic faculty to enhance their leadership abilities within a Department, Medical School, and the field of PM&R at large.

Gerard E. Francisco, MD Featured as Speaker at Capital Hill Briefing 

On June 23, a Capitol Hill briefing was held on "The Importance of Rehabilitation in America's Healthcare System." The briefing took place in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center and highlighted for policymakers the value of rehabilitation and rehabilitation services and devices for people who sustain injuries, have disabilities or chronic conditions.  Gerard E. Francisco, MD, who is chief medical officer at TIRR Memorial Hermann; chairman of PM&R and the director of the brain injury fellowship at the University of Texas at Houston; and the attending rehabilitation physician for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was among the featured speakers.  Dr. Francisco is an AAP Member at Large and the incoming AAP Treasurer.  The briefing was assembled by Peter W. Thomas, JD, who helped design the agenda and moderated the event.

PVA Releases Sexuality and Reproductive Health Guide for Adults with SCI 

The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) recently published Sexuality and Reproductive Health for Adults with Spinal Cord Injury: What You Should Know, a consumer guide now available on the PVA Web site. The education­al guide explores a variety of topics related to sexuality/sexual function after spinal cord injury (SCI). It is intended to help people who want to be sexually active after SCI to have the knowledge they need to make that decision.

MedEdPORTAL Call for Posters

All MedEdPORTAL users are invited to submit a proposal for a scholarly poster that describes the identification, adaptation, and implementation of a published MedEdPORTAL resource that addresses the future of academic medicine.  Accepted presentations will be displayed at the 2011 MedEdPORTAL Poster Session and Reception on Modernizing Medicine on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 6:30p - 7:30 pm at the AAMC Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado.  An award for the Best Poster will also be presented at the session.  Proposals are due by September 2, 2011 at 5:00pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).  See more...
