NIH Offers Muscular Dystrophy Fellowships and Career Development Awards
NIAMS and NICHD will provide career development awards to promising clinically trained applicants with the potential to become productive, independent investigators in basic, translational, and clinical research on the muscular dystrophies.

2011 Research Grant Applications Available

The Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has posted the application forms and criteria for their 2011 research grant awards program
at www.foundationforpmr.org/NEW/grants.html. A third Richard S. Materson ERF New Investigator Research Grant has been added ($10,000 each), and the Scott F. Nadler PASSOR Musculoskeletal Research Grant has been increased to $30,000. Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2011.
The Ossur Prosthetic/Orthotic Research Grant will be offered again in 2011, with an application deadline of October 15. The application form will be available in January.

Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students
Call for Site Sponsors
The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) and the Foundation for PM&R are excited to announce the 2011 Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS). This program allows first year medical students to experience the rewards of scholarly research within the specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation through an eight-week summer externship. Applications are now being solicited for both Medical Students and for Sponsor Institutions who are interested in hosting a student. Specific requirements are listed in the application forms. The deadline for sponsor sites to apply is March 11, 2011 and for Medical Students is April 15, 2011.

Medical Students with Disabilities: Resources to Enhance Accessability
The AAMC has released a new publication that provides medical educators with resources to work with students who have disabilities. The book reflects a more current view of what constitutes a disability and provides practical guidance on how to assist medical students from admission to graduation.
