Residents/Fellows Council (RFC) Announce FREE AAP Annual Meeting Registration Contest
The AAP's Residents/Fellows Council is offering three free registrations equivalent in the amount of $490/each to residents of the AAP to cover the registration expense at the AAP Annual Meeting, to be held in Phoenix, AZ from April 12-16, 2011.
To enter the contest, AAP residents must describe their general current and future interests; tell which course, workshop or speaker at the 2011 AAP Annual Meeting interests them the most and why; and, share the most compelling reason they have for attending the AAP Annual Meeting.
Responses should be limited to 300 words and are due by December 15, 2010. Prizes will be awarded January 5, 2011.

Government Launches Disability Research Website

The Center for Excellence for Research on Disability Services, Care Coordination and Integration has launched a new Web site. The center, established by the US Department of Health and Human Services, seeks to:
- Identify, assess, and disseminate the evidence on which services and care models work best for individuals with disabilities
- Create databases and effectiveness criteria to support new comparative effectiveness research on issues of high priority to the disability field
- Provide practical information to consumers and their families, care providers, and policymakers on the implications of the findings for care

Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students
Call for Site Sponsors
The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) and the Foundation for PM&R are excited to announce the 2011 Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS). This program allows first year medical students to experience the rewards of scholarly research within the specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation through an eight-week summer externship. Applications are now being solicited for both Medical Students and for Sponsor Institutions who are interested in hosting a student. Specific requirements are listed in the application forms. The deadline for sponsor sites to apply is March 11, 2011 and for Medical Students is April 15, 2011.

Bone and Joint Decade Young Investigators Call for Applications
The United States Bone and Joint Decade (USBJD) and Bone and Joint Decade Canada are dedicated to increasing research of musculoskeletal diseases. The USBJD has developed a grant mentoring program to provide early-career clinical investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers in our field to assist them in securing funding and other survival skills required for pursuing an academic career.
This program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows or post-doctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs. It is also open to senior fellows or residents that are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed.
Deadline to apply for the upcoming cycle starting with the Spring 2011 Workshop is January 15, 2011.

IOM Elects New Members
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) announced the names of 65 new members, including AAP member, Margaret G. Stineman, MD, at its 40th annual meeting on October 11, 2011. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. New members are elected by current active members through a highly selective process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.
