Annual Volunteer Session at Blackwater NWR
Become a Volunteer! On Saturday August 4, Blackwater Refuge staff and the Friends of Blackwater will hold an information session at the Refuge headquarters building from 8:30am to 4:00pm (lunch provided) where potential volunteers and current volunteers can learn about what the Refuge is doing to manage habitat and provide visitor services, and how volunteers can help. If you've always wanted to do something fun to benefit the Refuge, now is a great time to come and learn more about the many ways you can volunteer. Attendees can stay for only part of the day or for the full session. Register by contacting Michele Whitbeck at 410-901-6124 or Michele_Whitbeck@fws.gov, or read the Refuge press release (PDF) for more details. |
Update on Blackwater NWR Visitor Center Renovation
See Latest Photos of Renovation As many know, the Blackwater NWR Visitor Center has been undergoing a large renovation project that includes a new glass entryway and a new multi-purpose room. The Friends of Blackwater recently posted photos on their Facebook page that show how the construction is progressing. Work remains on the interior of the building and the parking lot, which will be enlarged and outfitted with an environmentally friendly design.
