Chicks on Eagle CamCheck Out the Cute Eaglets    
The Friends of Blackwater are very excited to announce the arrival of two eaglets on our Eagle Cam, which is located in a loblolly pine tree at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. This our eighth season with the Eagle Cam and we've yet to have an egg not hatch. Be sure to visit the Eagle Cam and watch our eaglets grow into impressive raptors.

Bring the Family for a Day of Fun!Eagle in Flight 
On March 10, Blackwater NWR will be hosting the 12th Annual Eagle Festival, when we show off our large bald eagle population. We have a fun day planned with events for kids and adults, so be sure to check out the Festival page for details. This is our biggest event of the year, so please join us as we celebrate our beautiful bald eagles.
Wild Goose Chase Benefits Blackwater NWR

Cycling Event Nets $40,652.16 
Wild Goose ChaseGeorgena Terry of Terry Precision Cycling announced that the Wild Goose Chase women's cycling event, held last fall on county roads surrounding the Refuge, officially raised $40,652.16, which will be donated to the Friends of Blackwater. The funds will be used to create new interpretive exhibits for the newly renovated Visitor Center. Thanks so much to Georgena and all the riders, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make the event such a success. Over 951 participants registered for the tour, with 775 actually riding in the event.

The 2012 Wild Goose Chase will be held on October 14, and riders can register at Active.com.
Blackwater NWR Accepting Turkey Hunt Applications

Wild TurkeyApplications Due by March 10

Refuge Manager Suzanne Baird announced that Blackwater NWR is accepting applications for the 2012 spring turkey hunt.  The Refuge hunt season will be Tuesdays and Saturdays beginning April 21, 2012 and concluding on May 22, 2012.  Beginning February 10, permit application packets may be picked up at the Refuge temporary Visitor Center on the Wildlife Drive between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.  Applications accompanied by an administration fee of $10.00 will be accepted by mail only and must be received no later than March 10.  Visit the Friends' Hunting page for more details.
