Ron Tillier, Former FOB President, Passes Away

 The Friends of Blackwater are very sad to announce that former FOB president Ron Tillier passed away on Sunday. Ron volunteered at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for 15 years, during which time he served as president and board member, and helped with countless projects and programs at the Refuge. Ron was the president of the Friends of Blackwater in 2003, when we won the "Friends Group of the Year" award in the National Wildlife Refuge System, and he did much to turn our organization into a premiere citizen support group. Ron also served as editor/writer of the Friends' "Tidelines" print newsletter, and was an enthusiastic promoter of the Friends' website and popular Eagle and Osprey Cams at the Refuge. To all who knew him, Ron was a wonderful and loyal friend, and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service is scheduled for 11am on January 28 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cambridge, Maryland with a reception following. Donations can be made in Ron's memory to the Dorchester Humane Society and the Friends of Blackwater. |
