Raptor Cams Update

Cameras Temporarily OfflineOsprey Cam
As we announced on our Osprey Cam and Eagle Cam pages, during recent renovation work at the Blackwater NWR Visitor Center, rain damage occurred in our computer room that forced us to take our raptor cams offline until construction is finished at the building -- hopefully in mid to late October. For more details, please see our Osprey Cam Web Log.
Friends of Blackwater at Vision Conference

Report from "Conserving the Future" Conference
NWRS logoThe National Wildlife Refuge System recently held the "Conserving the Future" Vision Conference in Wisconsin, where staff, volunteers and supporters of the Refuge System charted the future of our refuges. Maggie Briggs, of the Friends of Blackwater, represented our Friends group at the conference and filed a report regarding her experience at the event, which she described as "the best and most inspiring conference I've ever attended." You can read her full report (PDF) on our website.

Survey Reveals Some Surprises
Friends of Blackwater logo
During May 2011, the Friends of Blackwater conducted a survey of our members to learn more about their interests in regards to Blackwater NWR, how often they visit, and what they do when they come to the Refuge. The chair of our Membership Committee, Peggy Tillier, has published a summary report (PDF) of the survey, which you can read on our website. One of the surprising results of the survey is that we learned that many of our members don't know that local businesses give 10% discounts to Friends of Blackwater members, including a new eatery in Cambridge called Hot Spot Cool Eats. To learn more about this eatery and the other discounts available, visit our Members page.
