Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge has been welcoming a growing population of waterfowl over the last few weeks. Recent arrivals include a large number of snow geese, which join the Canada geese, tundra swans, and ducks already found around the marsh.
If you've been planning a trip to Blackwater NWR, now is a wonderful time to visit -- in fact, probably the best time of the year.
In addition to our waterfowl, we also have a great many bald eagles at the Refuge performing aerial courtship displays and busily preparing for their nesting season, which will start next month.
If you'd like a photographic sampling of what you might see at Blackwater, visit
DelmarvaPhotos.com, where photographer Bob Quinn has just posted his latest wildlife shots from the Refuge.
As a reminder, our Visitor Center is currently closed for renovation, but just look for our temporary Visitor Contact Station, which is located near the start of the Wildlife Drive. Here you will find brochures, restrooms, our gift store, and a helpful volunteer who can answer your questions.
