Come and A year has already passed since DECC's last annual meeting in 2011. Such a vivace! This year, we are expecting to meet up to give you an overview what has been done and what is planned to come ahead. We will also introduce you the previous council and hold the new council elections. For the latter, we are expecting nominations from our members to put up their vote to become elected to the council. 

 

After the official part of the evening, we will treat you with a light dinner and have the Danish ambassador to share his reflections on his 3-year stay in Estonia. We will also offer a nice and cosy evening for you amidst hygge people :)

A young photographer, Ardo Holts has received his photography education from Tallinn Polytechnics, and been involved with photoprgaphy over 5 years on a daily basis. He's been teaching photography in several Estonian schools, but also given courses for instance at Nikon Eesti. You can take a quick look at Ardo's photo blog at http://www.blog.ardoholts.com/

 

Ardo has agreed to make a special fast-course on April 16th to talk about ISO, zoom, composition, shutter and exposure, to give you the best tips on how to handle your camera effectively, how to choose the right equipment and the basics of photo editing. 


NB The course's language is Estonian, the participation fee 8 € for DECC members / 15 € for non-members includes light snacks only, but the bar is open for you at any time. Sign up immidiately by clicking here and filling in the form since we have limited number of spaces for this event. We have considered 10 people to be the maximum number for this course. It is recommended that you take your own photo camera with you to the course.

Once again, we will have an opportunity to mingle with out dear, hot friends from Spanish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce, to taste a variety of marvellous Spanish Rioja origin wines and taste their local, traditional food - paella with real Basque flavour presented by a special guest Juan Pablo Marques from San Sebastian, Spain.

 

The event is free of charge, however we will be able to host only a limited amount of people. Therefore, register yourself latest April 17th by filling in the form here.

Hell Hunt pub

 

Beer course by Drinkbar James Ramsden (UK) at Hell Hunt, one of the oldest Estonian pubs in town offering a good selection of beer and pub food. James has agreed to run a course on beer and explain the difference between special beers brewed at private breweries and the mainstream beers, tell you the difference of serving temperatures of wine and beer, tell you so much more and make you taste such a good selection of beers that it's a must-go event for an admirer of beer :)

 

The introduction will include ale, wheat, dark, larger, fruit, but also the new trends from the Danish brewerer Mikkeller, who's probably the most productive brewery in the world, by launching 76 new beers in 2010 only.

 

James has a master brewer qualification, is a former brand manager of the 4th largest brewer in the world, has also been the alcohol buyer for Rimi, is a trainer, and an owner of the Drink Bar & Grill, which carries the biggest range of beer in Estonia.

* Still, an exhibition "Spatium" is open at KUMU by the Danish artists till the midst of May. 

* Jazzkaar will take place from April 20-29, where a Danish trio Djanzz, together with the Estonian clown couple Piip & Tuut (also seen at the DECC's Christmas party in 2011) will make a performance at Jazzkaar on April 21. More information here.


Review of March 2012

March 6 - Norwegian-Estonian Chamber of Commerce invited us to their annual general meeting, which included presentation of survey results they had run amongst their members on how to create more value amongst chamber members. The event was followed by the annual lyefish dinner.

March 19 - our chamber member, MAQS Law Firm invited us to a FOA breakfast seminar on "What you need to know about termination of employment contracts?"

March 21 - we had a mingle event with the Spanish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce along with getting introduced to the Spanish ambassador, a very abundant wine tasting of Domino de la Vega.

March 22 - DECC representative took part of the FICE - Foreign Investors' Council of Estonia meeting

March 23-30 - Danish Film Festival took place at cinema Artis in Tallinn and Genialistide Klubi in Tartu

March 26 - we had a mingle event with the Finnish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce along with the visit to the yet un-opened, newly renovated TV-tower, that should celebrate it's opening today, April 4th.

News from Copenhagen Post and Baltic Business News

 

A majority of Danes believe the wealthiest should shoulder a greater share of the tax burden to pay for society's expenses such as the welfare state, a new study has revealed. The survey, carried out by YouGov for Ugebrevet A4, asked whether individuals agreed with the principle that the 'broadest shoulders' should bear the greatest burden. Over half - 53 percent - of those polled said they agreed with the principle, though support was greater from voters of left-wing parties than centrist or right-wing parties. Read more.

Copenhagen has earned high marks in a new Economist study thanks to its large, skilled, healthy and productive labour force, but the Danish capital ranks 23 overall in the 120 city competitiveness survey due to its low ranking for economic strength. The Economist Intelligence Unit looked at eight criteria of competitiveness in assessing major cities: human capital, economic strength, social and cultural character, institutional effectiveness, financial maturity, environmental and natural hazards, global appeal and physical capital. Denmark's best placing was in the 'human capital' category, where it ranked third. According to Kim Bek, the development coordinator for investment agency Copenhagen Capacity, the city's good results here were due to free access to good universities. Read more.
