AAF-Madison Members can Participate in National Webinars through AAF.

Webinars, "From the source" bring trade professionals directly to the desktops of AAF members through monthly webcasts exploring a wide variety of topics ranging from social media to diversity to legal issues in media.

The next AAF Web Seminar will be on "Out of Control Marketing", presented by Gaetan Giannini, assistant professor and chairman of the Department of Business, Management and Economics, Cedar Crest College. Gaetan will present an overview of changing dynamics in brand marketing. In the presentation, Gaetan will discuss what happens when "old school" public relations meets upstart social media to give marketers tools that build brand value and increase sales while not straining the firm's budget.

Lindsay, Stone & Briggs (LSB) recently won two Gold Graphis Awards for its work for Jazz at 5, Madison's series of free outdoor jazz concerts. "Noodles" and "Kitchen," part of LSB's "Anyone Can Improvise" poster campaign for Jazz at 5, were also included in the
Graphis Advertising Annual 2010, a collection of the best internationally produced advertising work of 2009.
"LSB is very proud to be represented in the Graphis Advertising Annual," Bill Winchester, Creative Director, said. "The tough international competition makes the award even more meaningful."  The campaign proclaims "Anyone can improvise. But jazz musicians do it best." Each poster features humorous improvisations, often with less than optimal results, illustrating that improvisation is best left to the professionals. LSB has enjoyed a relationship with Jazz at 5 for over 10 years and donated the work for this campaign.

CynthiaA Message From Our President:
Cynthia Everhart

Dear ,

Happy New Year! Looking at 2009 in review, we had a busy year:
  • We survived the changing of our club name after 61 years of equity built in support of our national brand;
  • We hired a new association management firm after retaining Lois Weiland for 22 years;
  • We thwarted off taxation in our industry;
  • We brought in exceptional speakers including Kurt Karlenzig on Social Marketing, Scott Stanner from TBWA/Chiat/Day on the Philosophy of Disruption, Dennis Ryan of Element 79 on Engagement is the New Black - Viral Marketing and Clint! Runge from Archrival on Youth Marketing plus several others that opened our eyes to their topics of expertise;
  • We hosted the education seminars in March where we had multiple speakers including the crew from Comedy Sportz and Chank the font guru;
  • The ADDYS took on a new format at the Monona Terrace, supporting 5 judges from outside our district, showcasing exceptional work that we passed on to the district level for judging there, we welcomed back the support of many past members that have not been active for awhile and celebrated their work from previous years as well;
  • Ted Knupp received the Silver Medal Award and we hosted a lovely reception in his honor;
  • We gave out 8 student scholarships;
  • We supported our AD2 organization;
  • We had a successful golf outing fundraiser;
  • We produced a New Member Packet and Brochure; and so much more!

However, these efforts have not come without a cost.  AAF Madison is facing depleting bank accounts and a static membership.  Our fundraising efforts have come in short and our membership dues are not high enough to support all that we do for our membership body.  So our Board of Directors and Executive Management Team are faced with making difficult decisions meant to streamline our processes, force the club to run more efficiently and effectively, spend less and come up with creative ideas for fundraising all with the intent to ultimately benefit the members and ensure the longevity of our club as well.

So with that you may have noticed that we have condensed our billing process for membership to one annual membership drive and renewal effort in January. Please respond to those renewal letters in your mailboxes and send in those membership dues. We have also modified our cancellation/walk in policy to ensure that we do not lose money on last minute cancellations and no shows at our events. We have considered changing our dues structure to follow what many successful clubs have done all over the country. We have challenged our fundraising committees to get more creative and come up with alternative funding sources for the club so we can continue to provide excellent speakers and programs that inspire, motivate, and support us.

The Board can't do this alone so I look to you, our members and supporters, to help us in this effort to make our club better, grow our membership and support the ADDYs and our fundraising efforts. I look to you for answers as to how we can attract new members, how we can retain our current members and entice old members back. I encourage you to reach out to all of your colleagues, coworkers and clients and share with them the many benefits of AAF Madison and being part of this national organization. And finally, I ask to you to join me in welcoming Andrea Barber from Apothecary Communications and Michelle Pullara from First Business Bank to the AAF Madison Board of Directors.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to a fantastic year with AAF Madison.

Cynthia Everhart
