Did you know one of the benefits of AAF Madison Membership is health insurance?

For over 20 years AAF-Madison members have had access to a group health insurance plan underwritten by Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation.  The plan has, since its inception, been marketed by Mr. Tim Byrne and Mr. Brandon Veit of M3 Insurance Solutions, Inc.  There are several qualifications that must be met by a company in order to be eligible for the program:

1.  The employer must have between 2-99 participating employees.

2.  The employer must meet the underwriting standards established by Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation.

3.  The employer must offer the plan as the "sole carrier."

Additionally, ancillary lines of "benefits" insurance have become available over the past several years.  Dental insurance through Delta Dental of Wisconsin and Life/Disability insurance through UNUM offer both premium discounts and benefit enhancements to AAF-Madison member employers.  For more information about these plans, please contact Tim Byrne at 608 288 2788 or Brandon Veit at 608 288 2794 (M3 Insurance Solutions, Inc.)

October Meeting: Social Media with Lee Aase, Manager for Syndications & Social Media at Mayo Clinic

Lee Aase Where: Concourse Hotel
When: Monday October 19, 2009
Time: 11:15a - 1:00p
Cost: Free for Active and Corporate Members; $18 for Affiliates, Ad2, Educator & Student Members; $35 for Guests

For more than a century, Mayo Clinic's national and international reputation has been built primarily through word-of-mouth recommendations from patients and their families, through physician referrals and via news media stories - not paid advertising. The advent of free or low cost social media tools has enabled Mayo to accelerate the spread of that word-of-mouth, giving patients a platform to share their stories and enabling researchers to provide in-depth information about diseases and treatments to niche communities worldwide.

In this session Lee Aase, Mayo Clinic's manager for syndication and social media, will share Mayo's experience, providing an overview of the relevant tools and examples of their successful use, and will discuss the obstacles to implementing social media as well as strategies for overcoming those barriers. Finally, he will examine some of the yet-untapped potential for social media inside organizations to improve collaboration and efficiency.

Lee Aase is manager of Syndication and Social Media for Mayo Clinic. His team's focus is developing quality medical news resources for mainstream media, and using social media applications to create more in-depth, extended relationships directly with key stakeholders. You can see examples of Mayo Clinic's social media offerings through the Mayo Clinic News Blog at http://newsblog.mayoclinic.org/ or at Sharing Mayo Clinic, http://sharing.mayoclinic.org/.

By night, Lee is Chancellor of Social Media University, Global (SMUG), a free online higher education institution that provides practical, hands-on training in social media for lifelong learners. Visit SMUG at http://social-media-university-global.org/ Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in 2000, Lee spent more than a decade in political and government communications at the local, state and federal level. He received his B.S. in Political Science from Mankato (Minn.) State University in 1986. Fuel Rochester is an initiative of the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.

CynthiaA Message From Our President:
Cynthia Everhart

Can you feel the energy?  We have started the year off with a burst of it.  Clint! Runge was fantastic and shared a wealth of knowledge on Youth Marketing and the new venue, the Concourse Hotel, received our group very well.  Special thanks to the Madison CW, our program sponsor, and congratulations to all the winners of the 50/50 raffle and The Office DVDs compliments of the Madison CW.

The energy keeps building as we prepare for the District 8 Fall Conference scheduled for Oct 18 & 19. AAF Madison will be host to guests from 11 different Ad clubs in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin as we discuss issues facing our clubs and industry, prepare for this year's ADDYs, share ideas and success stories and brainstorm new ideas on how to enrich our clubs even more.  All AAF Madison Members are welcome to join us for the conference.  Registration forms can be found on AAFMadison.org.

Join us for our October 19th luncheon and help us congratulate this year's Student Scholarship recipients as representatives from the MAF Foundation present their awards.  Also, we welcome Lee Aase, Social Media Specialist for the Mayo Clinic and Keynote Speaker for our Luncheon.  He will show us real applications on how Social Media and Syndication have helped Mayo Clinic build relationships with specific target audiences.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Speaking of energy, the ADDY Team is diligently at work preparing for the World's largest advertising competition.  Start compiling your submissions now for AAF Madison's big event for the potential to compete on the district and national levels. The ADDY's competition and show are a huge undertaking, so if you are interested in volunteering, please let us know.  We can certainly use the help.

These are just a few highlights of the many initiatives that AAF Madison is engaged in. I encourage you to get involved and make the most of your AAF Membership.  Let's keep the energy flowing.

District 8 Update:
Tom Keeler, D8 2nd Lt. Governor
AAF-Madison Past-President
VP/GM, WBUW-DT/Madison's CW

AAF Madison plays host to the 11 other clubs within District 8 of the American Advertising Federation on October 18 and 19 at The Quality Inn in Madison located at 2969 Cahill Main.  Here is your chance to learn and network with our counterparts from Minneapolis, Fargo, Green Bay, Sioux Falls, Duluth, and other clubs in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota.

The Monona Room at The Quality Inn will serve as mission control when we begin at 1:30p on Sunday, 10/18, to talk about nothing but Addy's and analyze ways to make it more efficient, as well as elevate the status of the competition to make it the most-prestigious creative award in our industry.  Discussions will include judging, marketing, and other critical components to improve the overall local, district, and national Addy competition.  Sunday's meetings will adjourn at 6p, and then we will all dine together at a downtown Madison restaurant and may hit a few bars thereafter to continue socializing.  Some conference attendees are coming in Saturday night to experience the Madison nightlife.  I will have details on those plans if anyone is interested in joining the party.

Monday's meeting begins promptly at 8:30a, and consists of a District Roundtable that will conclude at 11:00a.  Breakfast will be served in The Monona Room at 8:00a.  The conference concludes at AAF Madison's monthly program meeting at The Concourse Hotel downtown with Lee Aase, who will inspire us about the use of Social Media in the healthcare industry, specifically the Mayo Clinic.  Each conference attendee will be present at our monthly luncheon, so make sure to give our guests a warm AAF Madison welcome.
Pat Frawley named ADDY Judging Chair
