MBF Awards $20,000 Grant to Pilot Medical-Legal Program Thanks to You!
The Mecklenburg Bar Foundation is proud to announce its most recent grant award to Legal Aid of North Carolina in support of the newly established Carolinas Medical-Legal Partnership. The partnership between Legal Aid of NC, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, and Carolinas HealthCare System is designed to address the legal needs of vulnerable patients whose poverty and related social problems affect their health. The grant will enable LANC to staff the anticipated increase in health-related housing matters and domestic violence referrals from the CMLP.
The group's pilot project, called the Carolinas Medical-Legal Partnership for Children, will tackle the legal needs of pediatric patients at CMC-Myers Park, one of four CHS clinics providing free and low-cost healthcare to area residents, with the goal to expand the collaborative program to children treated at the system's three other clinics and at Levine Children's Hospital. "Thanks to the generosity of the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation, we will be able to hit the ground running and tackle these children's legal needs immediately," said Ted Fillette, LANC's Senior Managing Attorney.
To continue supporting vital programs in our community such as this, MBF is again committed to raising $300,000 to support nonprofits with a legal nexus in our community. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the firms and individuals that have stepped up to get our 2012 campaign off to such a great start with over $213,000 pledged so far!
