Miss America, WCO highlight Portage Independence Celebration |
Portage is gearing up for another great Fourth of July Celebration this summer. The fun is scheduled for Saturday, June 30. Miss America, Wisconsin's own Laura Kaeppeler, who is brought to you by Frontier Communications, City of Portage Tourism, and the Business Improvement District, is headlining our Independence Day Celebration Parade at 4pm.
Following the parade, members of the UW Marching Band, brought to you by AMPI, will perform a Fifth Quarter performance at Pauquette Park. The Concert in the Park, celebrating 20 years of the Chamber of Commerce bringing the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra to Pauquette Park, begins at 6:30pm with the singing of our National Anthem by none other than Miss America!
Local musician Madison Malone performs following the Orchestra at approximately 8:15pm. At dusk we will have a breathtaking display of fireworks set off over the Wisconsin River.

Portage Canal Days offers fun for everyone |
Portage Canal Days will be held June 1-3 this weekend. Join in on the fun at this annual event. A Kite Flying Festival at Divine Savior Healthcare from 10am-4pm and their Run/Walk will begin and end near Tivoli at Divine Savior Healthcare.
The parade is on Saturday, June 2nd at 11am with music, food and more activities that will take place at the Market Square parking lot. Over the weekend, tour the Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters and the Indian Agency House while visiting the historical encampments. A complete list of activities can be found by clicking here.

First Flea Market of summer kicks off June 2 |
The 2012 Portage City Flea Markets kick off on Saturday, June 2 and will be held the first Saturdays of the month through September located next to and inside the Bidwell Building at the Veterans Memorial Field at 300 Superior St. The market features crafts, produce, antiques, collectibles, and rummage sale Items. The event is held rain or shine! Citywide Rummage Sales will take place each of these Saturdays to coincide with the flea markets.

Divine Savior Run/Walk and Kite Flying Festival this weekend |

Divine Savior Healthcare is pleased to host our 32nd Annual Run/Walk on Saturday, June 2 at 8:30 am in conjunction with the 2012 Portage Canal Days event. We are also excited to share with you some exciting changes and additions to our Run/Walk!
This year's Run/Walk will now begin on our campus on Portage's north side. Runners and walkers will start and stop near Tivoli, our residential facility, and follow a course that includes Bluebird Lane, Meadowlark Lane, Hamilton Street, East Albert Street and Agency House Road. Also new this year is the addition of a 10K run! The 10K course will take runners out along the canal to the historic Indian Agency House and back.
Race fees are $20 per individual. We are also pleased to offer a reduced rate of $40 for families of 3 or more with minor children. Contact Kari Due at 608-745-6289 to register. Registration fees include a t-shirt, refreshments and eligibility for door prizes. Registration is also available onsite the day of the race, but t-shirts can not be guaranteed.
All runners will receive a timing chip which must be picked up on the morning of the race, so please plan accordingly. Race day registration will be available from 7am-8:15am. All Run/Walk proceeds will go to support Divine Savior Healthcare's Community Education Programs.
In addition, we are also pleased to host a Kite Flying Festival on our campus following the Run/Walk. This festival, featuring the Wisconsin Kiters Club, will take place across our campus from 10am-4pm. Come see the professionals fly their magnificent kites, participate in a kite making workshop and/or bring your own kite to fly - bring a lawn chair or blanket and have some free good old-fashioned family fun!

Portage Open Disc Golf Tournament tees off June 3 |
 Join 2008, 2009, and 2010 State Champion Chris Heeren at 10am on Sunday, June 3 for a Driving & Putting Clinic at Collipp-Worden Park followed by the disc golf tournament. Sponsored by Blau Family Chiropractic and Portage Parks & Recreation, food will be available to benefit Splash Pad. Registration/Check-in for this event runs from 10:45am-11:45am with a player meeting at 12pm. Fees/Admission for divisions are as follows: Beginner $10; Intermediate $12; Open $15; Women $10;

Circus Dreams at CrossPoint |
Circus Dreams features Randy Christensen and friends. Randy is known for his creative, attention grabbing heart and humor. He is an international award winning performer and a ministry veteran of over 30 years. Randy inspires all ages as he shares eternal truth with unique methods such as ventriloquism, comedy mime, juggling, magical illustrations and professional clowning. Join us at CrossPoint Assembly of God, 2727 New Pinery Road, for a a fun filled family night of clowning, magic, juggling, drama and music.

Sand County Fine Arts Festival event coming to Market Square |
The Sand County Fine Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, July 7 in Market Square from 10am to 5pm. The festival committee is partnering with Portage Center for the Arts to direct the proceeds toward furthering the arts in downtown Portage.
The Portage Rotary will also be hosting a beer and wine tasting during this event. Food and other beverages will be available for purchase through the Portage Center for the Arts booth. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, featuring Nathan Russell and his band Scuttle Buttin' blues band from 10am until 1pm, The Santas Boys (Cody, age 11 and Nicholas, age 13) will be doing violin/fiddling from 1pm unitl 2pm, and Harmonious Wail (gypsy jazz with an American flavor) from 2pm until 5pm.
The Sand County Fine Arts Festival committee and Portage Center for the Arts strongly encourage area businesses to support and help promote this wonderful event.

Eulberg to guide summer walking tours again
|
Local historian Judy Eulberg will again lead the Historic Downtown Walking Tours this summer. The one-hour tours will depart from the Chamber office, 104 W. Cook St., at 10am. The tours are free to the public and will be held on the first and third Saturdays of the month, June through August.
We are happy to have Judy back as a guide and look forward to another great season of enlightening locals and visitors alike with the history of our downtown.

This celebration of life is our graduation party to Kyle. Funds raised will be used for Kyle's Memorial Fund to provide a Choir Camp Scholarship for a Junior High Student and College Scholarship for a Portage graduate. Music entertainment provided by BIG & little Entertainment.

Join Edgewater Home & Garden on a field trip of some beautiful gardens on Thursday, July 26. Take a deluxe motor coach ride to Janesville and spend an amazing morning strolling through the internationally themed 20-acre garden. Books needed for Portage Library Book Sale |
 The annual Friends of the Portage Library book sale will be held July 26-28, 2012, at the Portage Public Library. Donations can now be brought to the library and must be in good condition with no mildew. Books (no Readers Digest, condensed books, textbooks or magazines), as well as books on tape/CD, VHS tapes, DVD's and comic books are appreciated. Proceeds from the book sale are used to support the children's programs and to purchase recorded books, DVD's, books and other items for the library.
