12 New Year's Resolutions
Marketing Commitments for a Successful Year

KIWI News, Vol. 4, Iss. 1 Front Cover
Now that you've had a wonderful holiday, taken some time off from work, communed with your family, and celebrated a bit, it's time to head back to work and keep some of those New Year's resolutions that you've made. Now, I'm not talking about those personal resolutions, like losing weight, quitting smoking, or starting an exercise program. Though, those are admirable resolutions to make, I'm talking about making a commitment to your marketing programs in 2010.

Every year when I work with clients, I find that they have good intentions to write and implement a marketing plan and to stick to it. But, something always comes between them and their commitment to achieve their goals and objectives. So, I'm asking you to commit to making steady strides towards meeting or exceeding your marketing goals and expectations. If you can't keep all 12 resolutions, then at least try to keep a handful. So, here are your 12 resolutions for a successful 2010.
  1. Formalize your marketing plan.
  2. Set some marketing goals, sales revenue targets, and overall company goals for 2010.
  3. Step out of your comfort zone and try some new marketing tactics like social media.
  4. Put a good public relations policy in place.
  5. In addition to public relations, try starting a blog.
  6. Commit to writing several feature articles this year.
  7. Keep your marketing programs consistent.
  8. Measure the effectiveness of your marketing programs.
  9. Keep on the pulse of your competition.
  10. Review your trade show activities.
  11. Stay in touch with your existing customers.
  12. Don't forget traditional marketing tactics.

Helpful Hints, Tips and Techniques

Article Marketing MIBCheck out our latest Marketing Information Bulletin, offering you some helpful hints on Article Marketing. What is Article Marketing, you ask yourself? It's a great way to get your name, message, and products in front of thousands of targeted readers whom you might never reach via other marketing channels. Best of all, it's very inexpensive, is viral, and is very easy to accomplish. It's a simple way of writing informative articles and getting them published online at various ezine Websites.

But how do I get started? Search for ezines that match your target audience and content. Make sure the ezine you choose accepts articles, of course. And get some demographic information on the readership to make sure they fit your target audience.

Once you've selected a few ezines, now you have to get down to writing the article. But, I have writer's block? What can I write about? The logical answer is to write about what you know... your area of expertise...what your customers want to know about your company or products. A good way to get started is to develop an article marketing plan tactic as part of your marketing plan. Set some goals and objectives to write a certain amount of articles for the year. Once a month is a minimum amount I would suggest. But, the more you write, the more articles you get published, the more your expert author status will be reflected.

And, finally, don't forget to add a resource box at the end of your article. This is where you can be bit more commercial and "sell" your products. But, remember you still are writing editorial, so don't try to make it a sales pitch. You can direct the readers to your Website for more information, have them sign-up for your blog or e-newsletter, if you have one, or put a "call-to-action" in the resource box.

Article marketing is a win-win situation. The editor gets great content for his/her ezine...the reader gets great information...and you, the author, send your message out to thousands of people whom you might never reach.
