Dear Community Partners,
First 5 San Mateo County (F5SMC) is pleased to announce that the State of California did not appeal the court ruling against Assembly Bill 99, which mandated a $1 billion sweep statewide from all 58 First 5 Commissions into the State's general fund. Locally, this means $15.5 million dollars will remain available to support programs and services for children from the prenatal stage to age 5 in San Mateo County.
Over the next few months the Commission will be re-visiting F5SMC's Long-Term Financial Plan and considering how best to utilize these funds. While this is a great victory for children, there remain many significant challenges within an uncertain economic landscape. I will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, let us continue to work together to stand up for our youngest population, so that all young children will be healthy, happy and thriving, now, and for future generations.
Sincerely,

Debby Armstrong
Executive Director
