The event featured keynote remarks by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Commercial Club of Chicago Former Chairman Lester Crown; a welcome speech from CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino; and three panel sessions that covered a variety of topics related to the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP), as well as discussion on how lessons learned from the OMP can be applied to major transportation projects in the future.
The first session of the day was a policy panel titled: "How Were Political Barriers Overcome?" The session was moderated by CDA First Deputy Commissioner Michael Boland, along with the following speakers: Robert Schillerstrom, Former Chairman of the DuPage County Board; Joseph Schwieterman, DePaul University; and Frank Soto, Mayor, Village of Bensenville.
The "Constructability, Sustainability and Technical Panel" was moderated by David Plavin, President, dzp Consult, Inc. and included Christina Drouet, Federal Aviation Administration; Ramon Ricondo, President, Ricondo & Associates; Khaled Naja, P.E., CDA; and Jim Chilton, Program Manager, DMJM Aviation Partners.
The summary panel entitled "What Lessons Can Be Drawn for Airports and Large Transportation Projects?" was moderated by Joshua Schank, President and CEO of Eno. The session included speakers Keith Brune, Deputy Director of Aviation, Philadelphia International Airport; MarySue Barrett, President, Chicago Metropolitan Planning Council; Ben DeCosta, Former Airport Director, Atlanta Hartsfield JacksonInternational Airport; Aaron Gellman, Professor of Transportation and Engineering, Northwestern University; and Michael Schneiderman, Outside Counsel, OMP.
Following the sessions in downtown Chicago, the CDA provided an airfield tour of O'Hare International Airport for attendees.
