Chicago Department of Aviation
Sustainability Workshops at Airports Going Green

The 4th Annual Airports Going Green Conference, which kicks off Monday, October 31, will feature two informational and interactive workshops:

Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) 02-28 and 02-30: Conference participants on Tuesday November 1, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., can learn about two important ongoing ACRP projects that will enhance an airport's ability to become more sustainable and track its progress.

ACRP Project 02-28, "Tools for Evaluating, Measuring, and Implementing Sustainability Practices" will answer the question: "Is there a need for an airport-specific sustainability rating system?" This interactive session will allow participants to voice their opinions about the tools and information they need to implement sustainability practices, and collect their thoughts about an airport specific sustainability rating system.

ACRP Project 02-30 "Enhancing the Airport-Industry SAGA Website" will update and enhance the Sustainable Aviation Guidance Alliance (SAGA) website and resources that are designed to assist airports looking to incorporate sustainable practices into their projects and operations.

Chicago's SustainableAirport Manual Update (SAM): This workshop will provide information on recent progress on the Chicago Department of Aviation's (CDA) implementation of its industry leading Sustainable Airport Manual (SAM) Version 2.1. From checklists to rating systems and Green Airplane Awards certification, participants learn from project examples and current initiatives as the CDA applies sustainability considerations across all airport activities. The SAM update workshop will round out the first day's presentations on Monday, October 31.
