Highlights for a few of the conference sessions follow:
Concessions & Tenants: Starbucks and Potbelly representatives will discuss the innovative practices they are implementing to conserve energy, minimize waste, sell more sustainable products and improve customer service. Representatives from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will discuss how it has encouraged its concessions and tenants to adapt sustainability policies. Additionally, hear from HMSHost, owner/operator of the first airport aeroponic garden which was recently unveiled at O'Hare International Airport!
Net Zero Waste: Learn how O'Hare, Midway, San Francisco, Denver, and San Diego International Airports are reducing their waste streams - from green purchasing, reduced packaging, and changing habits - to managing waste streams through recycling and material reuse, composting and anaerobic digestion.
Green Transport: Airports are seeking to meet and encourage the use of electric vehicles and other alternatively fueled vehicles, and creating intermodal opportunities. Airports including Dallas/Fort Worth International will discuss the infrastructure, vehicles, incentives and funding that makes it all work!
Sustainable Use and Reuse of Airport Facilities: Hear how San FranciscoInternational Airport renovated its 640,000-square-foot Terminal 2 into the first LEED-Gold terminal in the U.S. by using over 90 percent of the existing building. Speakers from Juneau International Airport will show us how they planned for, installed and funded their new geothermal plant.
Other conference sessions include Airline Sustainability Initiatives, a Keynote Luncheon with Christa Fornarotta - FAA Associate Administrator for Airports, the Future of Airport Sustainability, an ACRP Workshop and an Airfield Tour of the O'Hare Modernization Program.
