CDA to Host 3rd Annual Plane Pull at O'Hare for Special Olympics

O'Hare International Airport will be the site of the 3rd Annual Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull on Saturday, September 24, 2011.

 

The event is organized by Special Olympics Illinois.

 

Men and women are invited to compete in teams of 20 and play tug-of-war with a UPS B757 aircraft weighing more than 198,000 pounds.

Teams can compete in one of two divisions:

  • Open Division (ideal for companies, school teams, church groups, clubs, friends and families)
  • Public Safety Division (law enforcement officers, fire fighters, military personnel, etc.; teams need at least 10 public safety competitors to qualify)

Each team must pull the aircraft in the least amount of time to win the "Fastest Team Pull" and those winners will compete to be named Grand Champion.

 

Proceeds from the event will benefit the athletes of the Special Olympics Illinois.

 

Special Olympics Illinois is a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports to more than 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. With the help of these activities, the athletes develop physical fitness and motor skills, as well as gain self-confidence and friendship.
