TECH TIPS IN ONLY 2 MINUTES!

1) If you need to step away from your computer, just hold down the Windows logo key and press "L" to lock your computer.

2) If a website begins with "www" and ends with ".com" you can just type the middle portion

of the website address, hold down Control (Ctrl), and press Enter.

3) If a calculator isn't handy, just type the formula into Google and it will calculate the result. For example, type "2 + 2" into Google and it'll return a result of 4.

4) If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can increase the performance of Windows by inserting a flash drive. When the screen pops up, just choose ReadyBoost. It will make use of the flash drive as super-fast, extra memory.

GAMING
 @ THE LIBRARY!
Wii

About once a month, Sayreville Library has hosted teen gaming days in the after school hours.  Students from grades 6-12 shaow up on these days for an afternoon of fun and intense competition.  Some of the more popular games have included Wii Sports, Super Mario Kart, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl, on the Wii, and Super Street Fighter 4 and Madden on the Xbox 360.

Dan Vetrano, adult services librarian, says, "I love seeing everyone turn out for game day.  We get some really good players at times depending on what we're playing.  I also really like it that alot of people ask me to show them how to play Street Fighter.  This was the game I grew up playing the most so it's wonderful to see new players pick up the game.  If I can get my hands on them, I want to play some of the vs fighters here like Marvel vs Capcom 3, or Tatsunoko vs Capcom."

Pam Gunter has begun holding, as part of her Family Fun Day series, Family Game Day using the Wii.  Read more about it here.

If you are a teen or know a teen who would like to participate in the library's gaming sessions, contact Dan at 732-727-0212 ex. 11, or email him at dtvetrano@lmxac.org.

Hot Right Now!

From the author of My Sister's Keeper & Nineteen Minutes...

Sing You Home CoverSing You Home by Jodi Picoult

Popular author Picoult tackles the controversial topic of gay rights in her latest powerful tale.

When music therapist Zoe Baxter's latest pregnancy ends in a stillbirth, her husband Max decides he can't handle any more heartbreak and leaves her. As she picks up the pieces of her life, Zoe is surprised to find herself falling for a school counselor who happens to be a woman. While Zoe is finding happiness with Vanessa, Max falls off the wagon and is helped by a pastor from his brother's evangelical church. Vanessa and Zoe wed in Massachusetts, and Vanessa offers to carry one of the fertilized embryos Zoe and Max stored. Excited by the prospect of being a mother, Zoe goes to Max to get him to release the embryos to her and is shocked when he instead sues her for custody of them, backed by his church. Told from the perspectives of all three major characters, Picoult's gripping novel explores all sides of the hot-button issue. --Kristine Huntley Booklist

From the author of A Ticket to Ride...

The Paris WifeThe Paris Wife
by Paula McLain

Most of us know or think we know who Ernest Hemingway was -- a brilliant writer full of macho swagger, driven to take on huge feats of bravery and a pitcher or two of martinis -- before lunch. But beneath this man or myth, or some combination of the two, is another Hemingway, one we've never seen before. Hadley Richardson, Hemingway's first wife, is the perfect person to reveal him to us -- and also to immerse us in the incredibly exciting and volatile world of Jazz-age Paris.

The idea to write in Hadley's voice came to me as I was reading Hemingway's memoir, A Moveable Feast, about his early years in Paris. In the final pages, he writes of Hadley, "I wished I had died before I ever loved anyone but her." That line, and his portrayal of their marriage -- so tender and poignant and steeped in regret -- inspired me to search out biographies of Hadley, and then to research their brief and intense courtship and letters -- they wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of delicious pages to another! I couldn't help but fall in love with Hadley, and through her eyes, with the young Ernest Hemingway. He was just twenty when they met, handsome and magnetic, passionate and sensitive and full of dreams. I was surprised at how much I liked and admired him -- and before I knew it, I was entirely swept away by their gripping love story. I hope you will be as captivated by this remarkable couple as I am -- and by the fascinating world of Paris in the 20's, the fast-living, ardent and tremendously driven Lost Generation. -- Paula McLain Amazon.com Review
