Benton Harbor Housing Commission Creates Scholarship
Benton Harbor Commission Executive Director, Juanita Gibbs, Commission Chairman Ralph Crenshaw, and Commissioner Charles Yarbrough recently presented LMC Vice President Greg Koroch with a gift to establish a scholarship in the Commission's name.The $20,000 gift, $15,000 of which will be endowed and $5,000 which can be awarded as early as this fall, will be awarded to residents of the Harbor Bluffs Housing Complex who come to LMC directly from high school, as well as to adults who wish to seek the education or training they need to obtain a career or advance in their current positions or careers.Qualified persons interested in applying for the scholarship should contact the College's Office of Financial Aid.
NRC Grants $90,000 to LMC Energy Production Technology Scholarships
College EssentialsOn Monday, Congressman Fred Upton announced during a press conference at the Palisades Power Plant in Covert that the NRC has awarded LMC $90,000 to be put toward Energy Production Technology program scholarships and administrative support of the program. LMC Students, Alumni and Community Members Honored at Commencement
With 490 graduates, this year's commencement was the largest in the College's history. In addition to celebrating the achievements of the College's graduates, the College also honored LMC students, alumni and community members for their special achievements and contributions. The featured commencement speaker was graduating student Victoria Golliday. Honored alumni included Mamiella Chavis-Brown, Dr. William E. Remus, Nancy Conybeare, and Nancy Kietzer. Steve and Carol Sizer were presented with the Bernard C. Radde Distinguished Service Award for the leadership and support they have provided to the College's Music program.
Four LMC Students Named to All-Michigan Academic Team

Michelle Rudlaff of Berrien Springs, Eric Gorenflo from St. Joseph, Ben Riffer-Reinert of South Haven and Tom Walkley from Pullman represented LMC in this year's All-USA Team competition, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges and USA Today.
In that competition, Gorenflo was selected as a 2010 Coca-Cola Gold Scholar. Gorenflo received a $1,500 award and was listed in the April 19 edition of USA Today. The award is based on his community college accomplishments. The program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation.
LMC Women's Basketball Team Finishes Season Ranked #7 Nationally

Finishing the season with a 28-6 record, 15-1 in their conference, the Lady Indians earned a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Tourney, and a number seven ranking in the nation. Among the many individual awards garnered; Miranda Strefling was named to the National All-Tournament Team; and Tyeacia Warren was named to the NJCAA Region XII All-Region Team, All MCCAA Team and MCCAA 1st Team All-Conference. Coach Jason Cooper was recognized as the MCCAA Co-Coach of the Year, and the NJCAA Region XII Coach of the Year. Notably, as a team the women earned a collective 3.0 grade point average.

Among this season's features are country superstar LeAnn Rimes, the explosive onstage performance of DRUMLine Live, actor-singer-storyteller and Michigan native Jeff Daniels, the grace and beauty of the Russian National Ballet, and the big band stylings of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

LMC, Barnes and Noble Team Partner to Help Students
Lake Michigan College and its campus bookstore partner, Barnes and Noble College Bookstore, have announced that beginning with the Fall 2010 semester, LMC students will have the option to rent some of the most popular textbook titles currently available. LMC is among some of the first colleges and universities to be invited to participate in this program by Barnes and Noble College Booksellers. As of January, only 25 colleges and universities had been included in the program. Rented textbooks can save students 50 percent of the cost of buying a new, printed textbook.
