Harrison Confirms Commitment to hold Fall Tuition Steady
Despite an increasingly bleak state budget picture
President Harrison confirmed the College's commitment to not increase Fall semester tuition.  Harrison noted keeping "LMC affordable and accessible are among the most important things we can do for our community and students." Harrison reported another state cut under consideration is the elimination of Renaissance Zone funding which would result in a loss of more than $400,000 to LMC's budget next year. If enacted LMC's cut would be third most among all Michigan community colleges. Review the PowerPoint presentation the President made to the Board.
State Budget Woes Impact LMC Students
With the start of classes a month away, the Office of Financial Aid is working with hundreds of LMC students to help them pay for classes. That job was made more difficult with the Michigan Senate's decision to eliminate the Michigan Promise Scholarship program. Approximately 275 LMC Michigan Promise Scholarship students may be impacted with the loss of their promised $1,000 awards from the State.  State lawmakers are also talking about deep cuts, or elimination of State college and university financial aid programs such as work-study, nursing education and other financial aid programs. LMC Connects with Counselors
For three days this summer, 16 counselors from 12 area high schools went to college to learn about LMC. Executive Dean of Student Services, Dr. John Selmon, explained the program was designed to provide area high school counselors with information about LMC to share with high school juniors and seniors. This was the second year of the Summer Institute. Activities included presentations by representatives from the College's Business, Advanced Manufacturing and Health Sciences departments, as well as a campus tour and demonstrations in the new Medical Imaging Career Center.
