Dear ,
This
is your July 2010 issue of RealNews... first I must say, we missed you... and would
like to extend, deepest apologies for our absence. Our last issue was in February
and in the past five months, many things have changed for us, most
significantly we have added a new company to our operations called
"Rentertainment" pronounced "rent" "te" "tainement" as in entertainment, but
with an emphasis on rent.
Rentertainment
was born out of a longstanding, romantic desire to see movies under the stars
and create an entertaining event where families, friends and entire communities
can come out and share in a free, unique experience in their neighbourhood
parks and savannahs.
Rentertainment
just completed its very successful partnership with CCN TV6, The Trinidad Express Newspapers, Boom Champions 94.1 FM and Hott93 FM, in hosting the FIFA
2010 World Cup Football Fanatic's Retreat, at Centre of Excellence. The World
Cup semi-finals and final matches were shown to a live audience on our two
storey tall screen, which was a tremendous experience for all. We are now
em barking on the "Eddie Hart Savannah August Vacation, Movies Under The
Stars 2010 Tour" more details below.
, I
thank you for taking the time to read this months issue of RealNews and we look
forward to you comments and suggestions.
Best regards,Stephen Doobal Real Company Limited_______________________________________________________________________ |

Hire Great Employees Back-to-basics advice on what to look for in your most valuable asset By Bill Bartmann
In the course of hiring close to 10,000 people in my companies over the years, I've unfortunately seen the ineffectiveness of most of the fads, theories and scoring systems that promised to revolutionize the hiring process. It's unfortunate because many consultants seem to think they're paid by the pound, based on the weight of the documents delivered and not by results. But entrepreneurs must be focused on results. To wit, I share with you what I've learned from my years of recruiting. It boils down to looking for people who exhibit five fundamental characteristics.
Aptitude Certain job descriptions require lots of experience. But if you're trying to turn an industry on its head or create a new industry, it might be best to seek raw talent with lots of aptitudes or skills rather than hire people who think they know the business. My one cardinal rule for hiring people in my collection business was not to hire anyone with prior experience. I knew they'd be coming with lots of baggage we'd have to dump before we retrained them to treat borrowers with dignity and respect. In interviews and on resumes, we looked for clues that suggested aptitudes like the ability to create rapport quickly, handle rejection and to be willing to follow a proven process.
Attitude We had a FedEx driver who applied for a job with us eight times. When that tidbit percolated up to me, I hired her. How could I not? Even if she had other deficiencies, she exhibited the great attitude of never giving up. Some people look at problems as proof that they're victims while others consider problems to be challenges. One woman was late to work at our office one day because her car broke down. Then I discovered that she had walked 15 miles to get to work. Talk about a winning attitude! I bought her a new car on the spot.
Intelligence I'm not talking IQ, but rather a person's ability to come up with creative solutions. We all have budget and time constraints. Can your candidate point to examples where he or she found a way past, through or around a problem? Most industries suffer under self-imposed limitations of "it can't be done because it's never been done." My company became the subject of a Harvard Business School case study because we quietly and methodically dismantled barriers that other people thought were impenetrable.
Intensity I informed all new hires that working for my company would be the hardest job they ever had, but also the best. If that spooked them into quitting, I was glad I discovered that early on Look for people who embody the Zen principle of "Be here now." In other words, work when you're at work. Compete to be the very best and be impatient to reach your goals.
Integrity This is people's ability to do what they say they will do. For instance, if telephone reps promised to call a customer back in 30 days, I expect it to happen in 30 days - not 29 or 31. I also expect employees at any level to show up for meetings on time and have the guts to deliver bad news rather than shade it or hide it.
I applied these five character screens to all levels of my organization. How did this system work? The main industry trade journal called our operation the "largest, best-trained and most-profitable collection operation in the world." In an industry where typical employee turnover was 100 to 200 percent per year, ours was only 9 percent.
Make your best "people person" (which may or may not be you) part of the interview process, and have this person rate candidates on a scale of 1 to 5. This is a good way to determine whether or not a potential employee possesses the above traits. Later, you can look back to see how accurate that initial rating was.
What can you learn from that experience to adjust your hiring process? After all, these are not traits that show up like a swallowed coin on an X-ray; the goal is to get better at it over time.
Be careful not to delude yourself into thinking that having a great training program means you can train people to have these characteristics. They're either baked into us very early on or they're not, and in a fast-paced environment our true colors tend to show through. Once you make these qualities into a cornerstone of your hiring, you can smile at the fads and fancy scoring systems, knowing that your business is being built on the one foundation that never changes - human nature.

Forgiveness is not for the person but it is for you, ... 8 Ways to Forgive and Forget
Letting go of anger and bitterness can work wonders for both your attitude and your health, not to mention your relationships. Karen Salmansohn offers you eight ways to start forgiving and forgetting.
A wise woman and her young disciple were walking down the street. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an angry man in a carriage drove haphazardly by the two, insensitively pushing the woman out of his way. She landed in a ditch filled with muddy water. The woman yelled after the man in the carriage, "May you have everything you want!" The disciple, surprised by the wise woman's response, said: "I'm confused. Why did you say that to a man with such horrible behavior?" The woman replied, "Because a happy man wouldn't have thoughtlessly pushed a woman into a ditch."
Do you agree with this woman's response? In my book The Bounce Back Book, I offer empowering strategies for embracing forgiveness and liberating yourself from anger and bitterness-even in the most challenging situations.
Here are eight strategies to free you from your resentments starting today!
Say a Prayer Whenever angry feelings about a person who's harmed you enter your mind, tell yourself: "We are all good, loving souls who occasionally get lost." Pray for this person to find their way back to a happier place-in the same way the woman in this story prayed for her offender.
Focus on Gratitude Resist seeking happiness from the outside in. Instead, focus on gratitude exercises to bring happiness from the inside out. If you allow your self-image to be at the mercy of unpredictable events and unreliable people, your happiness will be forever on a chaotic roller coaster ride! Happiness must always be an inside joy! When you are tempted to focus on all the ways the world has done you wrong, instead count your blessings by making a list of the five aspects of your life that you appreciate. It is good practice to purposefully end your day this way to keep focused.
Look for the Lesson Many Buddhists consider huge difficulties to be a sign you're an old soul-the bigger your misfortunes, the closer you are to enlightenment. Whether you believe this or not, it's certainly cheery to reframe all your life's bad events as tests of your character. If you feel particularly tested right now, ask yourself what the heck you're being tested for! Patience? Compassion? Resilience? Forgiveness? Open-mindedness? What strengths must you develop further? Now consciously go out there and develop them!
The importance of perspective Maintain Perspective If you're going through a challenging time, remind yourself that this specific event is merely a part of your life-not your "whole" life. Consciously keep this "slice of life" perspective, and don't let the event overwhelm you. As the song goes, "The best is yet to come!"
Learn the Lesson Develop a "student not victim" mentality. Vow not only to disentangle yourself from emotionally harmful situations, but also to consciously avoid similar situations in the future.
Let Go of Resentment Keep in mind a fabulous Carrie Fisher quote: "Resentment is the poison you swallow hoping the other person will die." Recognize that when you resent someone, you are not only hurting yourself, you're also giving this person control of your emotions-and you don't want to give this person bubkes!
Stay Centered Recognize that when you respond with hate to hate, anger to anger, bitterness to bitterness, you are ironically becoming part of the problem. Choose to resist becoming like them and instead put in the conscious effort to remain a loving, soulful, happy person.
Get Revenge Positively Contemplating revenge? The best kind of revenge is living a successful, happy life. If you train yourself to consistently be more loving in thoughts and actions, your energy will attract more positive people and positive results. As Albert Einstein said, "You can't solve a problem by staying in the same energy in which it was created." To stay focused on highly positive thoughts, repeat this meditation ritual throughout the day: "Love, forgiveness, letting go, peace."
