Greetings!
Just a quick note: we're going to be giving away some free
sessions via Twitter. So if you're not
following us, it would be in your best interest to start
now. The giveaways could be anything
from one to several Boot Camp workouts, traditional workouts, or MedX spinal fitness
workouts. Craig wanted to throw dog
walking in here too, but I nixed that idea...
To win you may have to answer a question, or you
simply may have to be the first - or twelfth - to respond. Additionally, if you win something, you may
of course keep if it for yourself - but you may also gift it to someone else. So for that stubborn friend or relative that has
been talking about getting in shape, fixing back problem, etc., this may be
perfect. And this is open to anyone with
a Twitter account, so please tell your friends and followers.

Arm Yourself - With Knowledge
|
By Adam Reid
It's approaching that time of year again, where we
(hopefully) put away the snow shovels, and prepare to bring out the bathing
suits. As always, the goal should be to
strip as much body fat off as possible while preserving muscle. Ideally, you should 'look good naked', as clothing
can be purchased or tailored to hide just about anything. Since not too many of us frequent nude
beaches, a bathing suit is about as close as you're going to get - and gives you
the ultimate feedback as to the results of your diet and exercise
strategies.
Last year, I discussed planning ahead. This year, I'm going to change gears and
include some links to interesting things - be it books, articles, websites -
that will allow you to arm yourself with the knowledge necessary to succeed. Since most of you reading this are training
with us on a regular basis, the majority of this will be dealing with the nutritional
end of things. Craig and I can't be
given credit for inventing anything, but we have each made conscious efforts to
integrate as many valid concepts as possible, forming cohesive and bulletproof
viewpoints on the subject matter.
Muscle, Smoke & Mirrors - Volume 1
The first volume of Randy Roach's three volume set deals
with the beginning of 'physical culture' as a whole and details the split
between weight lifting and bodybuilding camps.
But just as important, and central to this history, is the chasm that
grew between what we now know as conventional and alternative medicine - and
the concurrent change for the worse in both our nation's food supply and recommendations
for what makes a healthy diet. Perhaps
the best history book I've read. Volume 2
is to be released sometime in 2010.
Health Myths Exposed
My first exposure to Shane Ellison was through this
book. An organic chemist who formerly
worked for 'big pharma', Ellison left in disgust after realizing the true
motive of the drug companies - that being wealth not health.
This book was a true 'eye opener', as up until this point I
was unaware of both how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry is, and how much
help they receive from the government. Some
of the myths debunked include:
- FDA
approved drugs are safe and effective
- High cholesterol
is a major risk factor for heart disease
- Cholesterol
lowering drugs, known as statins, are safe and effective at preventing
heart disease
Over-The-Counter Natural Cures
Ellison's most recent book deals with natural supplements
that should take the place of the drugs that were designed to mimic them. Much of the same information exists, in
updated form, from the previous book, but Ellison also includes where to find
these legitimate 'natural cures', and how much to pay for them. Most are available at Wal Mart, and of the
ten chosen, each costs less than $10 per month.
The People's Chemist
Shane Ellison's website, including articles, blog postings, interviews,
etc. Much of it is redundant if reading
his books, but it never hurts to have repeated exposure to the same information
as this serves to make the facts easier to integrate.
In order to read many of the articles, you may have to sign
up to receive Ellison's newsletter. We
get enough junk in our email inboxes, but in this case you could be receiving
some information that will literally save your life.
Weston A. Price Foundation
From the website:
The Weston A. Price Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charity founded in 1999 to disseminate the research of nutrition pioneer Dr. Weston Price, whose studies of isolated nonindustrialized peoples established the parameters of human health and determined the optimum characteristics of human diets. Dr. Price's research demonstrated that humans achieve perfect physical form and perfect health generation after generation only when they consume nutrient-dense whole foods and the vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats.
Real Milk
Information on real (raw) milk. Learn why milk sold in a store in the state of MA is simply unfit for human consumption. Once again 'big brother' has told us what is good for us, with disastrous results (i.e., degenerative disease). Thanks government!
